Kid's First Visit in Subangan Museum
Subangan Davao Oriental Provincial Museum is a museum curated to highlight Davao Oriental's natural resources, culture, history and even important events in the province through the years. It was established in the year 2014.
The said museum is just nearby our house, estimated of 5-10 minutes walk. During the peak of the pandemic, the museum also temporarily closed doors for visitors but now they are back to operation and I decided to bring the kids there.
The kids were excited because it will be their first time to see the inside of the museum. Upon entering, the first exhibit that they saw was the huge sperm whale. The bones were properly curated, this sperm whale was found in shores of Davao Oriental and they call it DAVOR.
Near it were the collection of variety of shells found here in Davao Oriental.
The museum was divided into corners and rooms. The first room that we contains the featured products of Davao Oriental such as cocunuts, abaca, bags made from abaca, bamboo, cacao and etc.
Then we proceed to the 2nd floor of the building because you know, kids love to go up the stairs. The 2nd exhibit were the preserved birds found in the province like Eagle, owl, heron, this was displayed during the "WildLife is Here" activity last March 2022.
Then we moved to the pictures of the flora and fauna of Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary (MHRWS). MHRWS is a UNESCO Heritage Site located in San Isidro, Mati City and Governor Generoso. Aside from the pictures, there were exhibits of artificial bonsai plants and mossy forest.
The mountain has a pygmy forest where the bonsai plants are located. The kids enjoyed looking on the computer monitors enclosed in glassed where they can see the video of ants and tadpoles moving.
Moving on, we saw pictures and miniatures of caves, waterfalls, mangroves and rocks that shows the different tourist spots of the province.
Near it were the pictures of the beaches of the province. It's very nice because it is decorated with real sand and beach accessories.
Indeed, Davao Oriental is very rich in natural resources and I am very proud that I am here in this place. In the part 2 of this visit to Subangan Museum, I will talk more on the corners which speaks about the culture and history of Davao Oriental. Hope you'll read it as well.
Have a great day to all!
