A mistake that I would never do again

Is there an instance in your life that you know that you have done wrong and you really promise to yourself that you would never do it again? As humans as we are we are vulnerable to do things that is not right in the sight of God and in the sight of man. I remember a specific instance in my life that I made a mistake and I really vow not to do it again.

The Story

When I was young, maybe Grade 4, we really don't have much for our wants and needs. I really can remember that I was not able to buy the foods that I want to eat or the toys that I want to have. One day, when I was from school, I passed through the rubber trees, where my father do "tapping" to rubber trees. Then I saw a coin purse. I can exactly remember the amount of money inside that coin purse, that was Php 100.00 in bill. Then I told my father about it and he get it from me and told me that I should not tell anyone that I saw it even if someone will ask.

Then, minutes later, I saw a lady that walked fast and seemed to be looking for something because she keep on looking down and swept the rubber tree leaves with her feet. Until she saw me, and she asked me, if I saw a coin purse, then I answered "NO". She seemed to be so worried, maybe that was the only money she had, but I really did not tell her that I saw it. It made me guilty. I know it was wrong. It seems that I stole the money from that lady. I was tempted because I know that we can buy food for that Php 100.00 which has a big value 25 years ago. Partly, I thought of putting the blame to my father for not telling me the right thing to do. But maybe, he was also tempted because we were in need. But no matter how hard life is, it is still not the right thing to do.

Looking back on that instance in my life, I know I did wrong and I promise myself not to do it again. So every time I see money or other things that is not mine, I immediately return it or find ways that I can return it to the owner.

My Karma

As the saying says, don't do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you.

I think I got my own medicine for what I have done. I also lost some of my things that was never returned to me. First, I lost my phone in a Department store then, I was able to call it once but the one that found it did not answer the call. I was not able to contact again and the phone was never returned to me.

Another instance was I lost my wallet in the Central Warehouse Club (A department store again). Actually I am not really careful about my things, I just put it anywhere. It contained a cash amount of around Php 6,000.00 and all my IDs were there. It was never returned to me, when all along, there were IDs that contains my contact number. So most likely, the one that found it really don't have a plan to return it. Aside from the money, it's really a hassle in my part because I go to banks and offices for change of ID and atm cards. Another instances were the cases that I am stolen with money directly from my wallet.

Closing thoughts

We are not perfect, we do some mistakes. But since it is a mistake, we should not let ourselves be succumbed of doing it again and again. I really regret that one instance in my life that I made that mistake of not telling the truth, of stealing money from someone through that scenario. But I vow to myself that I should not do it again, that I should not be tempted to things which cannot glorify the Lord in heaven. And I really prayed that I can instill to my children the importance of returning something which is not yours rather than telling them the other way around.

How about you? Have you committed mistakes that you really vowed not to it again?

This article is triggered by the post of @Itsfarah -You can't be succeed by wrong means. In her article, she gave life to Umair who chose to do the wrong thing of not returning a bag full of money to a lady and use the money for his business. But, in the end, the efforts were all put in vain, his building was eaten by fire. I can see myself to Umair, we are almost the same, but I had this chance to make things right. The money in that coin purse might be not that big, but that might be the only money that the lady had. Maybe to be used as fare or to buy food for her family. I can't really remember the lady's face and I was not given the chance to see her again. Because if I will be given the chance, I will really pay her tenfold the amount.

How know how Bad your Dad must have felt too. For him to have asked you to say NO the situation must have been extremely bad, I'm not justifying his actions but just sympathising with him. Don't blame yourself, you were young ,you couldn't say NO to your Dad. And truly Karma is a bit**

Yeah, I don't know if my father still remember this incident. I don't know as well what's in his mind and heart that time. It really hit me bad- the exchange of what I have done.

I agree with you Mizlhaine. Life is a cycle. We should be honest always. I believe also in karma Mizlhaine. I remember when I saw also a bill when I was walking at the street and it was only me that time.

It's 100 pesos too. I'm waiting someone who went back with that bill but no one so I decided to went back home with that money bill but if someone came that time I will return it. Thank you for this Mizlhaine. It's a great reminder to everybody including me.
