The concept of normality in 'Psychoanalytic Theories' has just caught my attention as I was browsing through one of my books in Psychiatry. It says there that 'normality' is the 'capacity for work and enjoyment...' or as Dr. Sigmund Freud, the founder of Psychoanalysis put it nicely in these German words, a normal person has the ability to "Arbeiten und Lieben"... which means in English, the ability to "work and love". I just remember our Psychology professor back then in college who was a Belgian priest. He delivered the lectures in class as if we're always listening to a mass' homily. And we just loved it! Everybody in the department adored him because of how he spoke with kindness and compassion. He has become actually my most favorite teacher! 😃 When I was interviewed for my application in the College of Medicine in our university, the head of the Natural Sciences who was the professor of Microbiology was assigned to interview the applicants. He was also a Belgian priest but was so notorious for being a perfectionist and a grumpy old man, everybody in the college was scared of him. After a series of questions that I answered with nervousness, he suddenly asked me if who was my favorite teacher and why? I immediately saw in my mind the kind and handsome face of our psych professor and remembered his remark on Freud's words! With a smile on my face, I told him outrightly, "Father Evarist made the lectures on Psychology alive and interesting... He made Freud's words most beautiful when he says, "A mature person is to be able to work, to love and to pray to God!" Father Brackman blushed... then he nodded in silence. Afterward, he extended his hands and congratulated me with a handshake, "Welcome to the College of Medicine!" Omg, hearing those was one of the most wonderful moments in my life! The fierce-looking Father Brackman was also smiling... I made him smile! 😊 You see, when you put God in everything you do, you will succeed! Wishing you all a lovely day Noise peeps!
