What to do when there is a POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION?
When a woman becomes pregnant her hormones change, often out of balance especially after giving birth. Estrogen and progesterone suddenly drop and as a result affect the chemical in the brain causing the following sensations:
• Quick to get angry
• Quickly irritate
• Feeling self-deprecating
• Easy to climb
• Extreme anxiety
• Anorexia or eating more often than usual
• Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
• Sluggish
• Crying often
• Difficulty bonding with child
• Thinking of hurting oneself or the child.
• Often resent even the smallest thing
• Often thinks of evil as suicide.
When left untreated, it can take months or years to deteriorate and lead to suicide or insanity.
The following helps to heal or recover quickly.
• Sunny- Get out of the house every morning to sunbathe and walk 2x for at least 20 minutes. It helps to refresh the mind.
• Make healthy eating a priority - it helps to have the right vitamins and minerals our body needs, especially our brain.
• Avoid sugary foods, drinks and coffee - it can add to the depression felt due to the unnatural chemicals used.
• Avoid alcohol and smoking - not only is it unhealthy, it also has negative psychological effects so it is often uncontrolled.
• It is important that you know the little things that make you feel good or enjoy your physical and mental health.
• Take time for yourself at least three hours to do the relief.
• Talk to the person you trust.
• Consult a Health expert- Do not be shy to go to a health expert such as a psychologist or psychiatrist.
• Pray or meditate- This is a great help for the development of spiritual health, whether taking time to pray to read the bible, or to participate in spiritual activities.
