Google was created in 1997 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as PhD students at Stanford University. Google controls 14 percent of the stock and 56 percent of the stockholders through special supervisory powers. On September 4, 1998, they incorporated Google as a private company. Google made its initial public offering (IPO) on August 19, 2004 and moved to its new headquarters in Mountain View, called Googleplex. In August 2015, Google announced plans to integrate various activities under the name Alphabet Inc. Alphabet will be the main subsidiary of Alphabet and will conduct Internet activities. As a final part of the restructuring, Sundar Pichai replaced Larry Page as CEO of Google. (Larry Page is now the CEO of Alphabet)
