Inspiration.
Working as a Call Center Agent in an employee centered company has been one of the best decision I made and for me to be grateful of. I was able to meet awemazing people (that's a shorter term for awesome and amazing). Though it was not easy at first, because it was really not. Who would like to get to work at 8:00 PM and get back home at 4:00 AM? That's crazy. That is not so me. The struggle is real. The adjustment and everything? It was unbelievable. But here I am, I can say I made it and will continue to make it.
As I mentioned above I was able to land in an employee centered company where the management prioritize the needs of the agents. My company is one in a million. I would say that. Why? They will not let the new hires or newbies to struggle coping up with the environment and the job they chose to have. In what way? That is by establishing Mentorship Program.
The program is ought to have a mentor and a mentee. That will be in a ratio of 1:5. One mentor and 5 mentees. The program will last for two and a half month. Everything will be discussed, all about the jobs, what's in the company, what will happen and what could happen in their stay at work. In short, it will be a guide emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Mentors are support system. Because again, being a Call Center Agent is not easy. But if you are with the right people, it will be.
To make the story short, I became a Mentor.
When I finally decided to join the program, these are the exact questions I have. Why did I join the program, the mentorship to be exact? To be honest, I really do not know how this mentorship will be going as soon as I will start working with my mentees! The nervouseness was there. Like, can I be a help to them? Can I fulfill this duty, this responsibility?
Well, after putting some thoughts, I then realized why not? How can I know if I can do it or not if I will not try? Sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zones to see the real world, to discover new things, to learn, and to grow. And finally I am here. I became a Mentor.
And the following will be my message to my mentees.
To my mentees:
For one week I guess, I kept asking one of my friend, "When ta mag start sa ato mentoring uy? Excited nako. Di naman guro ta idayon."
Despite of the doubt I have if I can do it or not, I am very much excited .That was my thought that time because I am very excited to meet you, I am very excited to share what I have learned for the past 16 months being here in this company. I may not know everything, but I assure you guys you got me. I will try my best to help you in any ways I can. Always remember, when you feel like giving up make sure to get back to the first time why you applied for this job. Beginnings are always the hardest, but you will never know how it feels to be successful when you will not try. Failures are normal, it is always there, it is natural. But what is important is how you cope up with the failures and how you react on it. Whether you are going to be affected or you will look at the brighter side. And I hope all of us will choose the second choice around. We may fail once or twice, but make sure to bounce back ten fold. You have many good people in Qualfon. You have me, your trainer, supervisors and all. We are family there. We can surpass the struggles if we are going to work hand in hand. Two heads are better than one, and how much more that we are six in a group helping each other? That will be amazing.
I was once like you. I started from scratch. I do not know anything. I have all the "hows", "whys", "whats" in mind everyday I go to work like you. Sometimes, I am almost in the peak on not continuing what I started. I wanted to give up. I wanted to stop. I wanted to rest. But at the end of the day, I will realized; I worked hard to get this job. I have reasons. That is why I continued. I kept going.
And ofcourse, I did not make it without the help of others. With the people around me, my friends at work, my supervisor, my go to mommy at work, I was able to cope up. They encouraged me, inspires me, and helped me to continue. And that is what I wanted to do to you. I wanted to be an inspiration. I wanted to say, I made it and will make it. And I know you will do the same. I wanted to be your support system, like how the people I mentioned supported me.
We can always help each other in our own different way. Phil Collins once said, βIn learning, you will teach, and in teaching, you will learn.β
