The Republic Seismological Institute registered an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale today at 12.19 pm, whose epicenter was 10 kilometers west of Sisak in Croatia, the Seismological Institute of Serbia told Tanjug.
It is a regional earthquake that was felt in the entire region, and in Serbia it was felt mostly in Belgrade, Vojvodina and in the area of western Serbia.
The intensity in the epicenter was estimated at the VIII degree of the Mercalli scale. Earthquakes of such intensity can cause moderate to severe damage to buildings in the epicentral area.
As it was explained, it is not only that today's earthquake is one degree stronger than the one that hit that area yesterday, but also that the amount of released energy is thousands of times higher.
