Failure to launch

Unfortunately, we failed. It didn't come without it's lessons. Here's what we learned so far.

Infrastructure development & adoption

Almost 99% of flipstarter campaigns fully funded were related to the BCH infrastructure or adoption. This makes sense to us. You can't increase the value of BCH by giving away to something that isn't related to BCH. The only notable exceptions were EatBCH and Sofia's several campaigns which still both included some form of adoption.

Improvements on our next campaign

We had a brief conversation with @georgedonnelly about this campaign and these were some of his tips.

  • What if you did a video of yourself talking about your plans?

  • What if you did an initial giveaway and video'd that?

  • What if you got a piece of acrylic printed up with the BCH or BCH Mexico logo and used that as a prop?

  • What if you did a 15-min orientation + wallet installs + giveaway + something viral that permits the recipients to spread the word would be nice.

We also received some words of wisdom from @emergent_reasons.

  • I think it is related to trust, relationships and reputation. EatBCH developed that over a long period of time and results.

  • I will definitely agree that the majority of funding has gone to infrastructure projects. However, this may be correlation not causation as those projects funded people who already have some level of trust (except one that may have been a scam...).

  • So I hope adoption and social efforts will keep going and build up trust. I want to see more and more of it. Much more than I want to see tech at this point.

  • I think people who want to do social work with BCH will need to find a way to combine things and show BCH stakeholders that they can accomplish several things at the same time.

We also received some advice from @Keith_Patrick.

  • Like I was saying in pm this campaign most likely won't get funded because people don't care about giving money to feed/shelter homeless people. I've noticed a trend that people are donating to BCH infrastructure development and adoption. Your campaign is like 99% helping people and 1% adoption. I personally know 4 people in Mexico using BCH and I'm one of them.

  • In order to get funding imo you will have to incorporate something in your campaign that is going to onboard more users or merchants. Raising awareness through speaking at conventions and talking to people in person about BCH.

@Josevzla gave us some insight on their start.

  • We started with meetings owners of store directly. In that way we could better explain the benefits of cryptocurrencies as a whole. Start with the small business owners if you already know them

Conclusion

We spoke to several people in the BCH community about this campaign and we slowly realized that our failure rate was going to be almost 100% on this campaign. We still want to help the people in our community nobody else cares about, but we need to include more adoption points. This needs to be 99% adoption and 1% philanthropy. We will go back to the drawing board and come up with a better plan to make it worthwhile for the people who donate.

I"m not sure this is the right lesson to learn, but I do think you shared a lot of valuable information here for other people who want to do a campaign.
