Our eyes belong to our five senses, if deprivation on it happened, it may cause a lot of stress and devastation on a person who will experience it.

Years ago, my brother had his job in a food factory. There, they had basketball event happened annually. Because of his love to that sports, he had his team competed and in some reasons, he felt he lost his sight on his right eye. It is painful according to him. He said he cannot tolerate the pain so we rushed him to the eye clinic. The eye doctor attended him so well, made some laboratory tests and after a while, he said that the retina of my brother’s right eye was torn. He said that he urgently needed an eye operation.

We don’t have enough money for the said operation that’s why I pledged my ATM card on my workmate’s Aunt for Php 10,000. Every payday, 15th and 30th of the month, I went to their house to get my salary instead if withdrawing in an ATM booth. The principal amount of money that I got from them plus the profit was deducted from the salary for six long months. Since that amount is not enough for the operation in the hospital near us, the doctor suggested to my mother to go to Philippine General Hospital (PGH), he said that there are good doctors that are expert to such eye operations, and big thing is it’s free of charge, all you spend is the bus fare, food and allowance.

My mother and my brother both didn’t know where that hospital is located and how to get there. They asked some people to give them the sketch of the said hospital and what are the mode of transportation. As soon as they get all the necessary information, they decided to go there. That was the first time they went to that place so when they rode on a jeepney or bus, they asked and tell the driver and conductor to stop them in the said place.

When they reached the hospital, there are many patients to attend to, and because my brother badly in need of operation, they waited patiently until their turn. When the doctor checked my brother’s eye, he scheduled his operation urgently. My brother said that it is very painful that he shouted a lot during the operation. After a while, the operation was successfully done. He stayed in the hospital for a week for further evaluation. Then they went home to our province after that week.

One month later, my brother said that he sees things okay but he felt that there is something in his eyes that he felt so uncomfortable, he went again on an eye doctor to see what it is. It is seen in the test that there is a piece of thread in his eye, he then undergone another operation but it is not like the one that he used to do, it is thru eye laser operation. It was successfully done and thanks God, his right eye is back into it’s normal condition. He had his new job now. He is a warehouse man now, doing his duties well, and he also have his own family, has two children. It is such a big blessing that his sense of sight didn’t deprived.

Closing thoughts

If deprivation of any senses came, it will affect much in our everyday life so we should be careful in everything we do. We should value all the things that God has given to us. It’s a huge blessing and we should be thankful for it.
