Dowry has now become a social curse in our country. It is an illegal practice of giving gifts to the bridegroom from bride's family. Discriminatory treatment to the girls, women's incapability of earning, and the shameless greed of the bridegroom's family are the reasons behind this social evil.
It has become such a menace that sometimes inability of giving dowry leads to the inhumane torture to the girls and sometimes to death. To eradicate this social curse, making the women self-reliant and awareness of the people and strict law are inevitable.
Like other backward and underdeveloped societies , most of the women in our country lead a low-graded life because of their having no participation in economic activities. Actually, economic independence and social status are interrelated. But in our country, women in most cases, are unexpected and depended on men.
We dream of a time when there will be no demand of dowry and no sister or daughter will be tortured to satisfy the lust of money of the brutal husband. Rather women will be respected and evaluate because they will give birth to and rear up our future generation to lead the nation.
Dowry is a custom in our society that everyone has made compulsory. Now if you don't give dowry, don't marry her. Tortures the girl more than the dowry. They should be punished. That is a heinous act like dowry.
