Have you ever sat down and wondered why people get up early in morning to go to school everyday? Or why some people are more excited to go to work than others? It all comes down to just one word, 'motivation'.
What is motivation??
Motivation is a mysterious force that pushes us to achieve our goals, causes us to feel more fulfilled and also improves our overall quality of life. The author of several seminal books on Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Coleman, identified four key elements that make up motivation:
Personal drive or the desire to improve ourselves
Our commitment to our goals
The initiative or our readiness to act on opportunities
The optimism, which is the ability to keep going forward
Then again, you might be thinking, "where do we get our motivation from??"
Well, you can obtain your own motivation from just about anywhere, it can be from our family or friends. Some people even obtain their motivation from their rivals. And sometime from the people surround us.
However, motivation can be split into two main types which are:
Intrinsic motivation
Intrinsic motivation means performing based on the expected and perceived satisfaction of performing an action or task and it usually includes having fun, being interested in something and challenging yourselves.
Extrinsic motivation
Extrinsic motivation means performing an action or task in order to obtain some sort of reward which includes money, power and good marks or grades.
Similar tasks may have more intrinsic motivation at certain times and more extrinsic motivation at others, but most tasks usually have a combination of both.
Another form of motivation is self-motivated. It is a key skill and something everyone who's interested in personal development should think carefully about. The fundamental to self-motivated is understanding what motivates you to do things. There is a number of skills involved in self-motivated:
Set high but realistic goals so that you can start working on them for the best results.
Taking the right level of risk to avoid causing any kind of trouble.
Seek constant feedback to work out how to improve yourself.
Be active to seek out opportunities and seizing them when they occur.
Able to deal with setbacks and continue to pursue your goals despite many obstacles that may be thrown your way.
There is another factor to motivation, that is you have to keep being motivated, you must keep track of what you want to achieve and stay motivated to do so, it can help you make bigger plans for your future. You have to study and acquire more knowledge, it is the key for feeding your mind and keep you curious and motivated. Also, try to avoid negative people and keep the company of positive, enthusiastic people, it is a lot easier to be motivated if the people around you are.
You got to have a positive attitude and see problems or setbacks as learning opportunities. More importantly, you must know your own strengths and weaknesses, work on ironing out your weaknesses and building up your strengths. But in the end, you just got to do it, try not to procrastinate, assess the risks but keep walking towards your goal, or else the above mentioned will all go to waste.
Well, after reading all that, I think it should be about time you get up and start planning on what you should do next, am I right? Whatever you do, wherever you are, always keep these tips in mind in order to become a successful person in the future.
Remember to constantly motivate yourself to do stuff, be it waking up in the morning or doing homework, make it as a habit to keep yourself motivated.
