In the last two days, I've read all manners of articles highlighting how to stop Mbappe than I've seen my entire life. I just couldn't stop laughing. It simply reminds me of those tactical analysis on Squawka highlighting how to stop a prime Messi. In the end, it always ended as a total waste of time. Now, I do believe England has more than enough quality to hurt France. However, focusing more on Mbappe while forgetting the threat of Griezmann and Dembele is a high way to the grave for the English dudes. What a night of football! What an incredible World Cup!! Belgium and Germany eliminated on the same day in the group stages. These two were favourites to make the quarterfinals.

So, the first big name casualty goes home. I already said Belgium is my favourite top team to exit at the group stage. Argentina escaped yesterday; Germany should also make it out of the group by defeating Costa Rica later today. And, this tournament is going unbelievably well for Africans. After the first game week the five African teams had two draws and three losses, scoring just one goal. Two of them, Senegal and Morocco have qualified. Cameroon has to defeat Brazil to go through while Ghana will hope to banish the demons of 2010 by going through at the expense of Uruguay. This is already a better tournament for Africans than Russia 2018 where no representative made it out of the group stage.

Well, this is what happens when one's fate is decided by another. Tunisia just did the hard task of defeating tournament favourite, France. However, that wasn't enough as Australia surpassed expectations to defeat Denmark. Home goes Tunisia who lost out with four points. So, for Group D, France and Australia qualifies for the Round of 16 with 6 points apiece. Tunisia (4 points) and Denmark (1 point) goes home. That was a terrible performance from Denmark, a team that was tipped by many as the dark horses of this tournament.

Ghana vs Uruguay decider looks like the stuff of legends. Ghanaians still carry the heartache of losing out to Uruguay in 2010 when Suarez denied them a goal that would've made them the first African team to reach the semifinals of a World Cup. They will be keen to exact some form of revenge here.

African teams had a shameful first match results at the World Cup where they recorded two goalless draws and three losses, scoring just one goal in the process. They've changed the narrative in the second match with three wins and a draw out of the four matches played so far, scoring 11 goals and conceding 6 in the process. Surely, Africa won't experience a saddening repeat of Russia 2018 where all five teams were eliminated in the group stage. #WorldCup
