The growth rate of the Philippine population is expected to decrease this year, according to the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM).
According to Herita Macarubbo, director of POPCOM Region II, the estimated population of the entire country this July is expected to be 108.7 million which is considered to be less than the 109.9 million projection.
This is after recording a 1.52% decrease in the number of Filipinos from 2015 to 2019.
Macarubbo said the agency's ongoing information drive in relation to the agency's family planning programs such as contraceptives can be considered a success.
According to the commission on population growth, poverty is expected to be reduced in the country especially in the sector of the poor with many children.
