Now that one of the leading Tagalog newspapers in the country, Pang Masa (PM), is celebrating its 15th anniversary, the author wants to help 15-million Filipinos with diabetes.

Diabetes is caused by drinking sugary drinks, such as various brands of soda and sugary foods. That is why the leadership of the Department of Education (DepEd) has taken action to ban the sale of soft drinks to schools that students often buy.

Under DepEd's order, instead of soft drinks being sold in canteens in various schools, only 'fresh juices' such as coconut milk, soy milk and other milk or mineral water.

It is not a joke to have diabetes, apart from having various complications of the disease in the body, it also costs a lot of money to rush to the hospital.

According to the author's research, he found a ‘miracle plant’ from India and it was called the ‘Insulin Plant’ with the scientific name Costus Igneus.

Insulin is a medicinal plant with medicinal properties that in India is called “Magic Cure for Daibetes.

Numerous studies have shown that it can cure the disease of people with type-2 diabetes who are already injecting ‘Insulin’ into their body just to lower their ‘blood sugar’.

“The leaf of the plant helps in producing insulin and control the blood sugar levels of our body, thereby treating Diabetes. It is now accepted and used widely as an Ayurvedic medicinal herb ”according to a study by Medicine of India.

Insulin plant is characterized by smooth dark green leaves with a purple shade. Its leaves are ‘spirally arranged’ around its stem, forming attractive, arching clumps arising from undergound rootstock.

The maximum height of the Insulin Plant is up to two feet and blooms beautiful yellow-orange and 1.5 in diameter. Its flowering is during cold weather and is like a cone at the end or tip of its stem. The petals of its flowers are sweet and nutritious.

Insulin plant is easy to reproduce, by transplanting its shoots and cuttings of its old stems.

Insects do not approach it so there will be no problem for its breeders and it lives in a ‘slightly shady area’.

People with diabetes are advised to eat two leaves, five minutes before breakfast, lunch and dinner for a month.

When a patient's blood sugar normalizes, it is only a leaf before eating as a maintenance for the sick.

People with high Blood Pressure (BP) are also good to eat its leaves.

Some doctors in India are also recommending the Insulin plant as a traditional medicine to promote longevity, treats rash, reduce fever, treat asthma, bronchitis and eliminates intestinal worms.

Many have been using the Insulin plant among Filipinos since it was introduced in the country, after being featured by a well-known Radio and TV personality in his program.

Many have also testified about the ‘effectiveness’ of the Insulin plant that cured their diabetes.
