How To Track And Solve A Local Area Network Issue

Welcome to my blog dear friend. Let’s talk about Networking as it relates to my activities today.

I travelled outside my state of residence, and unfortunately for one of clients company, they ran into some network issues that stopped them from operating their hotel management application.

They called me but I wasn’t around, I advised them to look for another available engineer to work on their system. But the problem persisted until my returning back.

I went there today with my Networking tools. It was a straight forward diagnosis that took only few hours to rectify. On my arrival, I checked all the computers to know those that aren’t seen in the network. For those systems that we’re not seen, I verified their network group name and as well as re-establishing their IP addresses.

After that, some of them was ratified while some refused. I checked the network light at the back of the those computers and noticed that some were signaling but yet not connected, while some wasn’t shining light at all.

I then utilized my electronic cable tester to track the faulty cables.

Then it became obvious to me that some cables are faulty inside the conduit line in the wall and on the pop ceiling.

I demanded that their maintenance officer should confirm if the network cables are damaged inside the ceilings; yes, my suspicion was accurate and right.

The cables were not properly secured in a pipe which exposed them to be attacked by rats 🐀 🐀 

I’ll try to replace the cables tomorrow. I concluded late, but couldn’t finalize due to time factor.
