What is liquid gold? Petroleum or mineral oil is called liquid gold. Why?

Oil-exporting countries earn a lot of foreign exchange by selling this oil.

Petroleum extracted from mines is refined in various processes. Then it runs as many cars, ships, aircraft, engines, factories in the world.
