This is a topic we avoid all the time, especially in this part of the world. From childhood, there's been this thing about marriage. Over 90% of children look forward to it without even realising why. Society has made it in such a way that if you aren't married, you aren't responsible. It's worse for women around the world. Their marriages are arranged before they can pronounce the word.
Why do you want to get married?
Societal pressure?
To please your family?
Love?
Companionship?
Children?
I've heard people say they're there because it's the right thing to do. But why's it the right thing to do? There are cases where love doesn't even come into the picture. The family just finds someone with the qualities they want for their child and boom, marriage.
Is marriage a contract?
Some marriages have been arranged by business partners for their children, even when both families cannot boast of friendship. Makes you wonder if they actually consider their happiness before making that decision.
Christians will tell you that God said to multiply, and how deciding to not birth insults the marriage institution. But this is story for another day.
Then there's the traditional aspect of it where people marry in order to carry on the family name. You see women getting maltreated for not bearing male children. They also feel superior amongst themselves according to the number of male children they have. It's all bunch of crazy.
