One of the best and also important things we can do for ourselves is eating right. It's a struggle for many. It was for me too, for a long time. Still is. But on the long run, you realise that eating right is you doing yourself a favour. Why would you want to harm yourself if you can help it?
Eating right here isn't eating wealthy. Wealthy and healthy are two different things. People mistake the two a whole lot. They buy all kinds of unnecessary food just to make themselves feel good. In the end, they create more problems. You hear phrases like, you have only one life, and one thing must kill man. What's the point if you can't even live the one life in full because of illness that comes from what you put into your mouth? I've actually come to realise that the wealthy –especially the uneducated– eat the wrong kind of things the most. Ignorance? They say there's no excuse for that. Everything is and will always be at our disposal. We just have to look and make the effort for it.
It's more difficult to do in the part of the world where I am, because most of what we have here are high on carbs. But we can always dilute with lots of veggies. And lots of exercise. While eating the right things should be the priority, overeating is also a thing. When you eat the right thing in the wrong way, it becomes poisonous. There's nothing to prove by continuing to eat when we should stop. Some do it till their stomach is ready to burst. It sounds funny but it isn't. Adults do it too. They just can't stop eating.
Away from eating disorder which happens to be a medical condition and requires special attention, we can always control what goes into our body. We have the willpower. The choice will always be ours. Why not use it then? Back in the days, I remember my grandparents rarely got ill because majority of what they ate came from the ground. They cultivated and harvested. I was raised in a farm (no diary) and I hated it at the time. Now, I'm thankful for it. I've moved away but I still try as much as possible to eat cooked food with lots of vegetables. Most of those foods, you can't find them anywhere anymore. People have moved on from them. And we are dying as a result.
Eat like you love yourself.
