The first processor from Apple for Mac computers has become official and is known as the Apple M1. According to Apple, it has stated that its new processor includes the fastest core in the world, the fastest integrated graphics processor, and tremendous energy-efficiency capabilities.
The Apple M1 processor is based on 5nm manufacturing technology and includes 16 billion transistors. For comparison, the Apple A14 Bionic processor contains 11.8 billion transistors, which means that the density of the transistors in the Apple M1 processor has been significantly enhanced. This processor is still similar to smartphone processors, it also includes a unified memory architecture, and this means that the same memory can be accessed by the central processor, the integrated graphics processor, the input and output control unit, and other components without the need to pass data through PCIe.
The central processor consists of four large cores and four small cores. The large cores share 12MB of L2 cache, while the remaining 4 small cores share 4MB of L2. They work together, and are twice as fast as the "latest laptop processor" when the TDP is limited to 10W, and if there is sufficient cooling, they can run faster.
Apple's new core processor is more efficient than current processors for computers, as it uses only a quarter of the energy while providing equal performance. Finally, triple the performance per watt.
As for the graphics processor, it is the other with eight cores, with the knowledge that it is considered the fastest integrated graphics processor, according to Apple, its power is 2.6 teraflops, which means that it is faster than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, which has a power of 2.1 teraflops.
The Apple M1's 16-core AI Neural Engine will run machine learning algorithms within 11 TOPS. There is also an advanced media encoding and decoding engine as well as an advanced processor for cameras. A security chip is also included in the new Apple M1 processor, and no separate Apple T2 chip is required.
The new Apple M1 processor supports Thunderbolt, unlike most non-Intel processors, so Apple users will continue to enjoy fast external storage and other accessories as well. USB 4 is in the list of supported ports as well.
