Did you go here because you’ve seen the super-imposing word “FREE!” in the title? Maybe I got you click baited.
There are many titles on the internet – it may be on YouTube or on Google or Facebook, etc. – that would immediately entice you to click and see what may be inside that is being given for free. Most of them are clickbait, just like what I did to you just now. However, some of them are genuine that offers something that is truly free: free manga, free anime, free movies, free money (it may sound ridiculous but sometimes this thing exists), free music, etc. And since this is free, we tend to consume and use and share this, but the question is: Are these free services legal?
Before answering that question, let me ask you one first: Are you happy when you click a YouTube video that says, EARN INSTANT MONEY BY DOING ALMOST NOTHING and you watch it and halfway through the video, you realized it was nothing but a piece of trash or a referral video that would give you almost nothing? Probably not. You just waste your time watching parts of the video and give money to the channel owner – well at least you help the channel owner earn…
Free Things on the Internet are like that, they would first give you a hard time before they give their golden apple that you want to possess. Those free things are legal so long that what they are sharing is made by themselves or was given permission to share with others. But, services such as a free movie or free music or free anime are not.
THESE KINDS OF SERVICES ARE ILLEGAL AND SHOULDN’T BE PATRONIZED.
Websites that are sharing these kinds of services are illegal. They are stealing products from the rightful owner for them to earn and gain something from it. Hence, when we download these things or stream them, ‘torrent HD Movies’, ‘save full album’, etc., we are being part of something illegal and letting these things to promulgate as the traffic they gain from you brings them loads of cash that allows them to expand their scope.
Then, what should we do?
We almost can do nothing about these things as they are rampant worldwide. But if we can support the original owner or creator of that product or thing, we ought to do so because to simply say, it’s the right thing to do. Just think of this: A writer spends thousands of hours extracting all the creative juices in her brain, been rejected by some publishing house, and when it was finally published, months later an eBook version of her work was all over the internet free to download. A big chunk of possible gain from her hard work was ceased because someone scanned the book and share it on the web.
Many original creators are discouraged to pursue their passion because of rampant piracy. Some of them just quit and lead a new career that would provide them their living expenses. Piracy is the biggest problem on the internet. This problem tends to get bigger and bigger as millions of people patronize them. If you are still reading until now, I am going to ask you a favor: PLEASE BE PART OF THE CHANGE!
Most of us, even unknowingly, sometimes consume illegals. But as we are getting more and more conscious about the effects of this thing on the industry of creativity and such, we ought to change our ways. Stop patronizing illegal products and services on the Internet and start supporting our original creators as being one is not an easy endeavor.
