Ghost Month

CHINESE GHOST MONTH – HOW TO DO RITUAL FOR PROTECTION AGAINST BAD LUCK.

The entire Ghost Month, from August 19 to September 16, is important. People not only worship to Protector Gods and pray to the ghosts, but also are conscious of not breaking some interesting taboos. To do so would be bad luck.

It is believe that the gate of the underworld opens and the spirits return to the living world for a one-month “vacation”. 七月鬼门开 (Qī yuè guǐ mén kāi) means “In July, the ghost gate opens”.

During this month, there will be an increase in paranormal or ghost manifestations, increase in number of accidents, increase in the number of crimes, increase number of hospital deaths and unexplained medical problems from medical procedures, and an increase in business failures.

RITUALS

The Incense Offering Ritual should be made every night during the entire Ghost Month to avoid harms caused by the spirits.

Family members usually offer sacrifice to their deceased ancestors and relatives during the month and on the Ghost day. They are honored with wines or drinks and foods. The family’s ancestral photographs will be put on the table with incense burning near them.

People also pay tribute to those unknown wandering ghosts with foods and burn joss paper to please the ghosts to avoid the harm by them.

People shouldn’t sign any contract, move to a new house, grand opening if business or get operated.
