Marky Story: Secluded barangay
In almost every place in the Philippines and around the world, there are calls for landforms and waterways that are unique to neighboring provinces or regions. In our area, in barangay Bayan-bayan, Labo, Camarines Norte, the spring of water is called "bung-aw" which seems to be a cave that during the rainy season there is water flowing but not in the summer.
And like every form of land and water that is different or unique, there is always an associated story revolving around creations from the world of wonders and darkness and other magical events. In the coconut of my grandfather we call Dad or Grandpa Ambo of my fellow grandchildren, there is a spring that belongs to the form of land called bung-aw.
I have come to know the various stories in this area of the people who live on my grandfather’s land as a herdsman or a coconut farmer with a mysterious event taking place in this land form. Mysterious events related to creations from the world of wonders and darkness as well as events related to amulets or amulets.
This event took place at a time when my brain was beginning to get preoccupied with the events going on around it related to various things and events that attracted my interest. Among these incidents is the story of a farmer in our barangay who worked on my grandfather's coconut as a conspirator who got an amulet in the cave.
"Bobby, it is true that an amulet was found in this cave", my young son told me of my grandfather's caretaker of his coconut and cattle while we were both sitting in the cave slowly when the water dries up because of the approaching summer.
"What amulet?" I will ask.
"Floating black stone", replied my childhood.
"What did he do with the black stone?" I asked again.
"He made an amulet in cockfighting", replied my childhood. "And because of the amulet, almost all of her pets will be attacked, became herdsmen in the shelter!"
Because of the story, I also wanted to get an amulet in the mouth but not for use in cockfighting, if not make an amulet that will give me more strength and other characteristics of the man in my view, I lack. And since many of the stories I heard about the cave took place in connection with the amulet during Easter, I decided to watch the cave on Good Friday.
"I hope there is an amulet floating in the water of the cave", I said looking at the big hole in the ground during the rainy season, there is water flowing but during the summer it disappears.
But even though I spent the day patiently watching the cave for the floating amulet, my dream did not come true. And because I believe that the stories I heard in the gulf related to wonders and talismans are true, I spent a few Good Fridays watching the appearance of this thing in a strange form of water.
"You are not lucky to have an amulet from the cave", said Lolo Ambo when we once discussed in conversation how to get an amulet from the cave.
Over time, my time and mind were focused on the many trials of life and preparation for the future so I lost in my brain the mysterious events taking place in the abyss full of wonders and mysteries. But in the time of loneliness and recollection of what has happened in my life in the past, this event that I consider an old story in a remote barangay that may or may not be true also comes to mind.
I have a belief that every writer eventually finds their voice as a writer. We start out in this beautiful moment where everything is possible. As newbies, we’re in it for the stories — not for the complexities of the market. Every good story starts with a spark of inspiration, an idea. What matters to the new writer is not who is going to read that thing, but instead crafting that idea into something people will want to read. Marky stories are not only for children, but adult may want to read this also as if the stories have love, fiction, epic and many more, I'm not only focusing in one theme, because every day, readers want something new, something that is not published before.
