Marky Stories: Horrible Death

It was in the late 80's when the story took place that caused a horrible death (if true) to a person who valued alcoholic beverages more than anything else in the world. A story that has long been the subject of conversation in various corners of barangay Tulay na Lupa, Labo, Camarines Norte, my hometown.

When I was still working at the Post Office and living in this barangay, I often saw a person called Villados sleeping in a shop that, according to many I spoke to, was building a boat. But because of his excessive love of alcohol, he neglected his job and did nothing but drink at the store of his older brother Digoy where he slept in extreme intoxication.

"What happened to him, brother Digoy?" I asked while looking at Villados who seemed to be motionless while lying on the long bench.

"As before, he is dead from drunkenness", replied older brother Digoy who glanced at the man called Villados.

Although, the villager of Tulay na Lupa strongly condemns Villados' being a batsman or buratsoy (our place is called the person who is addicted to alcohol), I felt pity while watching his sleep on the long bench in kuya Digoy's shop . Due to the fact that life in the world is really complicated, I moved to Labo town, Camarines Norte so I can no longer monitor the life of the person who put alcohol first in anything in the world.

1992 was a big test in my life so I went back to the Land Bridge to live there again. Because my parents are originally from Labo, I have many relatives in the barangay on the side of my father and mother so while entertaining myself in preparation for returning to Metro Manila to continue writing, I often hang out with them.

As I hung out, as usual, we talked about various topics, including the tragic events that took place in Villados that became the root of his tragic death. According to the story, because the man who was a slave to alcohol did not move, the people of the Land Bridge decided to bury him in the belief that he was dead.

"What happened to Villados was horrible," my older brother Efren, a relative of my mother's side, told me. "Still alive, buried in the supposed dead!"

"It is impossible for that to happen, brother Efren", I replied. "No one can afford to bury life!"

"I believe what I say, Bobby", replied brother Efren. “Someone heard Villados crash into the coffin to get out but was scared to dig again!

I believe there is a good chance that the story will be true because it was not only my older brother Efren that I heard about the tragic death of the person called buratsero or buratsoy. I repeatedly talked to older brother Digoy for the elusive truth, the owner of the store where Villados was found to be motionless so he was buried but his answers to me were not serious.

I once wrote this story in a tabloid newspaper, but my pupil forced me to rewrite it because it deserved to be written. Whether or not Villados' tragic death is true, a question that only those who buried him can answer.

I have a belief that every writer eventually finds their voice as a writer. We start out in this beautiful moment where everything is possible. As newbies, we’re in it for the stories — not for the complexities of the market. Every good story starts with a spark of inspiration, an idea. What matters to the new writer is not who is going to read that thing, but instead crafting that idea into something people will want to read. Marky stories are not only for children, but adult may want to read this also as if the stories have love, fiction, epic and many more, I'm not only focusing in one theme, because every day, readers want something new, something that is not published before.
