Marky Stories: Ancient Grave
This experience of mine took place when I was still in elementary school and our family lived in barangay Bayan-bayan, on the land of my grandfather on the side of his father Pablo Villaflor Villagracia which was turned into a cattle ranch. Since there was more wood in the nearby areas, my father often asked because it was better to use it for cooking than coconut shells.
And because he often asked for big and long wood, my father tied it to a car pulled by a buffalo called "tow" after removing the luggage compartment. Because of this method, even the large and long wood he brings to our house to be fueled when the rainy season arrives.
But a mysterious event took place, the buffalo came to our house running fast followed by my father who no longer had the wooden part attached to our pet as well as the wood. Out of curiosity, I approached my father and mother, who were talking about a mysterious event.
"I don't know", my father's story. "Suddenly Toro (we call the pet buffalo man) runs non-stop and fast in front of the grave of the native Kabihug!"
"My God", my mother replied. "Maybe Toro did something to scare the souls of the natives of Kabihug!"
Not only did my father agree with what my mother said, if not everyone knew about the incident so they feared the graves of the natives in my grandfather's neighboring land. The fear of the people in the area increased even more when the incident happened in one of our neighbors who was riding a buffalo who also ran fast and without stopping to pass through the grave of the Kabihug natives.
Due to the incident, the fear of the people in the tombs of the natives of Kabihug increased so even though I love to shoot birds and lizards exposing the stump during the summer in the area, I could not do it out of fear. Events also paved the way for the evacuation of people from the nearby barangay to the center of barangay Bayan-bayan.
But over the course of the day, the owner of the kaingin discovered the reason for the rapid and relentless running of our buffalo and the buffalo of the barangays passing through the graves of the natives. According to the owner of the kaingin, there is a house of beetles, a type of bee that painfully bites into the ground hole in the grave of the native Kabihug who bite the buffalo.
Bitten by the owner of the kaingin, he searched the house for the bee sting and set it on fire to kill the herd of brave insects. Since then, no buffalo has been running fast and non-stop when passing through the graves of the native Kabihug, but even though the mystery was solved, the fear remained in my mind so I could not pass through the place beyond the darkness.
I have a belief that every writer eventually finds their voice as a writer. We start out in this beautiful moment where everything is possible. As newbies, we’re in it for the stories — not for the complexities of the market. Every good story starts with a spark of inspiration, an idea. What matters to the new writer is not who is going to read that thing, but instead crafting that idea into something people will want to read. Marky stories are not only for children, but adult may want to read this also as if the stories have love, fiction, epic and many more, I'm not only focusing in one theme, because every day, readers want something new, something that is not published before.
