With more rumored Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters being teased every day, here's 5 guest characters that deserve a spot in the roster.
It seems like every day, more rumors are cropping up about new DLC characters coming to Mortal Kombat 11. Recently, a datamine seemingly hinted at a possible 19 new DLC characters coming to the game, causing many players to speculate if their favorite Mortal Kombat character could make their way into the roster.
While nothing has been confirmed for the next wave of DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 11, there have been so many leaks and rumors around certain fighters, so it would be hard to believe that new characters aren't being worked on in some kind of capacity. Perhaps the primary example of this would be Ash Williams from The Evil Dead, whose inclusion was datamined from the Nintendo Switch version of the game when it first launched and has seemingly now been leaked by Richard Epcar, the voice of Raiden.
With this leak in mind and game director Ed Boon teasing an announcement coming for Mortal Kombat 11, guest character DLC speculation has seemingly kicked into overdrive. While the game has already seen 4 guest characters with The Terminator, Spawn, The Joker, and Robocop, there could be room in the roster for a few more newcomers to the series. Here are a few non-MK characters that could possibly work well in Mortal Kombat 11's lineup.
With Kenshi only making an appearance as a corpse in The Krypt, Mortal Kombat 11 is sorely lacking a character that uses a sword for their primary weapon. While Scorpion and Kotal Kahn both technically have swords on them, neither one of them would be considered a sword wielder by trade. That's where The Bride comes in.
Beatrix Kiddo, aka The Bride, has been considered by many to be one of the most strongest ladies in action movie history. Wielding a katana crafted by the legendary swordsmith Hattori Hanzo, the Kill Bill protagonist has decimated scores of men, like The Crazy 88, all by herself. During that battle with The Crazy 88, she even manages to get her hands on a second sword before using a floor spin technique, leaving blood and viscera in her wake, perfect for Mortal Kombat.
If one strong woman wasn't enough, another could make Mortal Kombat 11 even better. Famously portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, the Alien franchise's Ellen Ripley has faced numerous obstacles to survive an onslaught of Xenomorphs, who previously made an appearance as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat X.
Equipped with her Power Loader she used to defeat the Queen in Aliens, Ellen Ripley could prove to be a formidable heavy hitter on par with Shao Khan. And although Ripley has made an appearance of sorts by way of a skin for Jacqui Briggs, that doesn't mean she's out of consideration altogether. In that same skin pack, Jacqui also has a skin themed after Spawn, who has already been added to Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC.
From one classic sci-fi franchise to another, The Matrix has lacked a presence in the video games industry for years now. However, with The Matrix 4 slated to come out in 2022, now may be the time to begin generating excitement by including Neo in Mortal Kombat 11.
Keanu Reeves' famous role of Mr. Anderson, or Neo as he's more commonly known as, would be an exciting addition for Mortal Kombat 11. Throughout The Matrix trilogy, Neo gains an assortment of powers while inside the Matrix itself, most notably kung fu, flying, and the ability to dodge bullets. Considering that Neo was almost a guest fighter in Injustice 2, perhaps The One could find a new home among the protectors of Earthrealm.
Neo isn't the only Keanu Reeves character that could do well in the Mortal Kombat universe. John Wick, the former hitman known as Baba Yaga, is no stranger to the world of video games. From Payday 2, to Fortnite, to his own game with John Wick Hex, perhaps it's time for John Wick to explore the world of fighting games.
This isn't the first time John Wick has been proposed for the classic fighter. In July of 2019, Mortal Kombat 11's game director, Ed Boon, trolled fans about John Wick being added to the game on Twitter. While at that time, that tweet may have just been a joke, a year is a long time to reconsider a character's inclusion in a game. And with John Wick 4 currently in development, it may not be out of the possibility to add Wick as a form of promotion for the movie.
Finally, just as every Scorpion needs a Sub-Zero, every Joker needs a Batman. The Joker's inclusion in Mortal Kombat 11 has helped pave the way for other comic book characters to enter the brutal fighting franchise, such as Spawn. Perhaps now is the time for the caped crusader to make his journey out of Injustice and into the Netherrealm.
When looking at past DLC characters in both the Mortal Kombat and Injustice series, it doesn't seem that NetherRealm Studios is afraid to cross the streams. Besides The Joker in Mortal Kombat 11, several Mortal Kombat alumni have appeared in the Injustice games like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden. Batman being added to the game could be the perfect opportunity to show off the hero's brutal side like Ben Affleck's portrayal in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
