I grew up in a simple and beautiful province. We lived a happy and simple life even though many trials came to us and we still struggled to get up. Amid the pandemic among us, most have lost money because they have no source of employment. Most people are almost in tears where they get what they eat every day. But when you are in the province, sometimes you remember that when you plant vegetables, it is very fun first because you have a source of food. That is the advantage when you live in the province.

I want to eat almost every vegetable but there are only one of my favorite vegetables that I am always looking for. This is the BITTER GOURD. It is a bitter and nutritious vegetable. Its bitter taste is determined to have medicinal or medicinal value, as it contains momorcidin.

Bitter Gourd is a common vegetable found on the table of Filipinos. It is notorious for its wrinkled and bitter fruit. The leaves are also used as an ingredient in some cuisines. It grows in many places in the Philippines and countries in the tropics.

What part of the plant is used as a medicine, and how are they used?

Some parts of the plant can be used as medicine such as:

  • Leaves. The leaves are usually sliced or stewed for treatment.

  • Flowers. The ampalaya green fruit juice is commonly used to treat many ailments. It can be crushed and made into a drink or the fruit itself can be eaten as a vegetable.

  • Root. The root is often boiled and given water to treat.

Why do I like it?

  • Health: Leaves and fruits provide vitamin C, iron, calcium, and other essential minerals. Bitterness is reduced by soaking the fruit in salted water before cooking. BITTER GOURD is also used as a beverage for natural and body health. Several studies suggest other benefits of BITTER GOURD: helping to remove toxins and toxins in the body (such as nicotine), strengthening the body (Immune system), and regulating pregnancy.

  • Helps with diabetes and high blood pressure One of the benefits of bitter gourd is that it contains insulin-like compounds that help process blood glucose. The bitter ground has an effective and safe method of regulating glucose and metabolism.

  • Cures a common cold or cold, cough, and fever It also prevents and treats inflammations in the respiratory system immediately. Eating and drinking its juice prevents any respiratory disorders. For cough, fever, squeeze the bitter gourd leaves for juice, then drink the juice or juice, one tablespoon per day.

  • It strengthens the immune system and brings extra resistance to infection.

  • Helps improve the condition of a person with psoriasis and other fungal infections such as ringworms and athlete’s foot.

  • It is a good hangover remedy because it can cleanse and reorganize the liver after you consume alcohol.

  • Bitter gourd lipoic also has collagen for healthier skin and bones.

  • The fruit is also said to contain Vitamin C, calcium, iron, folate, and phosphorus.

  • Ampalaya or bitter gourd leaf juice can improve the feeling of a person with dengue.

This is not the only reason why I like bitter gourd. But when cooking it mixed with eggs or sardines. That's the life of a province girl.
