Indonesia has prepared six stadiums to host the U-20 World Cup.
The U20 World Cup will be held in Indonesia next year. This prestigious football event will take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023. The U20 World Cup is a special final for the national football team consisting of players aged 20 and under. 24 countries competed in this tournament after passing the qualifying rounds in their respective confederations. Through this tournament, there are always magical children (becoming wonderkids) who later become superstars in the gridiron. Some of them are Diego Armando Maradona. The 1979 U20 World Cup in Japan gave birth to this great Argentine star. Maradona won the Player of the Year award and was the second most prolific player at the time.
To date, nine countries have confirmed their participation in the finals of the U-20 World Cup, including Indonesia, which automatically entered because it was the host. The United States, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Israel and Slovakia are the other eight countries. After the FIFA Council meeting in Shanghai, China, on October 24, 2019, Indonesia was selected to host the 23rd edition of the U-20 World Cup.
Indonesia became the second country in Southeast Asia to host this event, after Malaysia in 1997, and the seventh country in Asia overall. The U20 World Cup was originally scheduled for 2021. However, due to the large number of Covid19 cases, FIFA decided to postpone it until 2023 on 24 December 2020.
Indonesia was elected and defeated candidates from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Peru, Myanmar, and Thailand.
As the host, Indonesia has proposed six stadiums in six cities, which have been approved by FIFA.
The six stadiums are as follows:
1. Jakarta's Bung Karno Stadium
