The government is preparing to deal with a possible second wave of coronavirus infections while keeping the country's economy afloat. For this, various measures will be taken to increase the public awareness, fix the medical system and increase the institutional quarantine facilities. The concerned ministries have been instructed to work out a specific action plan within 8 to 10 days.
An inter-ministerial meeting was held at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Tuesday to prepare for the possibility of another phase (second wave) of coronavirus infection. That's where these decisions are made. The meeting was attended by secretaries of various ministries, Principal Staff Officers of the Armed Forces and Inspector General of Police.
Earlier in the day, a cabinet meeting on Monday feared that corona infection in the country could escalate further during the coming winter (second wave). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed to make preparations for this by using the present experience. In this context, this inter-ministerial meeting was called.
After the meeting which lasted for about two hours, the meeting was chaired by the President and Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Md. Mahfuzur Rahman informed the decision of the meeting in a press briefing.
The cabinet secretary said it was not clear whether the second wave of corona would come. But if it comes, what will be the program, they have been divided. Experts will prepare an action plan on what to do about such medical matters. Pneumonia is more common in winter. That is why everyone will be made aware soon and medical plans will be made. Second, there will be a massive campaign to ensure that everyone wears a mask, ensures physical distance, and adheres to the health guidelines of the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Information and the Local Government Department will take action in this regard. The media can also play a big role in this regard. An action plan will also be drawn up on how the field administration, police and army will conduct the operation.
The cabinet secretary further said that the ministry of education has been given the responsibility to decide on the opening of educational institutions. And each ministry will take action on how to run their offices-courts and institutions. Besides, many people are coming and going from outside the country. Therefore, necessary measures will be taken to prevent the virus from entering from outside. The armed forces are still working at the airport in this regard.
Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said the direction for these works has been given after initial discussions. Now you have to plan these actions in 8 to 10 days. Then they will be finalized and informed to everyone. And the subject of the campaign will depend on reality. But the key will be to keep the economy afloat.
At the time, the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General. Mahfuzur Rahman said that when the infection was at its highest, there was an institutional quarantine system for three and a half thousand patients. However, there were not more than one and a half thousand. For that, it has been reduced to two thousand. If the situation worsens again, the institutional quarantine will again be three and a half thousand.
