My favorite poet is Rabindranath Tagore. He is one of the leading poets of the world. In all his writings, he has no equal in the field of Bengali literature.
Rabindranath was born in the famous Tagore family of Jorashako in Calcutta on the 7th on March, 1861. He received his early education at home. Later, when he was sent to school, he did not like the strict routine there. He was sent to England at the age of seventeen study law. However, he returned home with a short time and devoted himself to writing. He won the Nobel Prize for English version of his Gitanjali in 1913. The British government made him a Knight in 1914.
Tagore was a versatile genius. He was a poet, a novelist a short story writer, a dramatist, an essayist a critic and a philosopher at the same time. He was like a continent, each of his regions was a land of wonder and delight.
Tagore wrote for more than sixty years. His writings have been complied in twenty- six big volumes. He wrote innumerable poems and almost each of them is unique in its style and literary merits. He wrote many novels and short stories and gave a new strength to Bengali prose. He composed thousands of song and one of them has been accepted as our national anthem.
My favorite poet Tagore is also a favorite poet of the millions of our educated people. He has been called the representative of our existence we are indebted to him in many ways.
