Additional information on the benefits and virtues of strawberries. Delicious in taste, low in energy (35 kcal per 100 g), strawberries are full of vitamin C. At equal weight, they contain more vitamin C than an orange, i.e. 60 mg per 100 g of fruit, which corresponds to more 50% of the recommended daily allowance. At equal weight, they contain more vitamin C than an orange, i.e. 60 mg per 100 g of fruit, which corresponds to more 50% of the recommended daily allowance. The small seeds of strawberries, or achenes, provide insoluble fiber that helps prevent constipation. Strawberries are also a good source of pectin and other soluble fibers that can help lower too high blood cholesterol.

Strawberries also contain valuable bioflavonoids, such as anthocyanin, a red pigment, and elagic acid. While further scientific studies are needed to confirm these promising virtues, these bioflavonoids could help prevent cancer. Achenes or small seeds in strawberries can be irritating in people with inflammatory bowel disease or diverticula, which are small hernias protruding out of the intestinal wall. Some people are allergic to strawberries - which, in addition to a common allergen, contain salicylate, a naturally occurring compound similar to aspirin. They also contain oxalic acid; therefore people who are prone to urinary or kidney stones should avoid them.

Strawberries should be washed well, as they retain pesticide residues. But we will do it at the last moment, without removing the peduncle, so that they do not soak up water. It is therefore preferable to taste them at room temperature to enjoy all their flavor.
