How do you like fresh slices of bread toasted with ghee, served with home made butter and stuffed with delicious cheese slices ? Do you like custard topped with fresh cream ? How many glasses of milk and butter milk do you drink per day ? Do you also have curd or yoghurt during your meals ?

All the above food items are obtained from one main ingredient that we get primarily from cows or domestic buffaloes - MILK. Food items mainly processed from milk are called dairy products. Sometimes, raw milk is also obtained from other mammals like horses, yaks, sheeps and goats.

Dairy products generally yield high energy as they contain lot of saturated fat. Excessive consumption of these energy-rich products may result in milk-related allergies or lactose intolerance problems. Hence, people suffer from vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps or even skin allergies. Some of the processed products like blue cheese may get easily contaminated if stored under improper conditions. Hence, they trigger respiratory or asthma problems.

People with lactose intolerance should avoid milk and dairy products that are not fermented.

In addition, instant potatoes, processed breakfast cereals, bread, baked foods, instant soups and breakfast drinks, salad dressing, candies, biscuits, cookies and pancakes made from instant mixes should be completely avoided.
