The skin color of one of the disciples was white. But in her house a black child was born!

The disciples were quite surprised. Why would a black child be born in her house even though she is fair? He suspected his wife! He thought, did his wife cheat on him?

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) took the complaint to him. "O Allah's Apostle! My wife has given birth to a black child, but I am not black."

What that disciple meant is clear. He is suspicious of his wife. Upon hearing of his suspicions, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked him, "Do you have any camels?"

The disciples said, "Yes, I have a camel."

"What color are they?"

"Red."

"Is there a black (matte) camel in it?"

The disciples said, "Yes, there are black camels."

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked, "Where did this black color come from?"

The disciples said, "Perhaps it came from a previous lineage."

Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

"This black child of yours also probably came from a previous lineage." [Sahih Muslim: 3657]

The Companions came with a bad idea about the wife, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) dispelled the Companions' doubts with a real example.
