Medina is the second holiest place on earth after Mecca which is located in western Saudi Arabia. The vast Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) is located in city center and few of the places to visit in medina are below.

Al Masjid an Nabawi

Also known as the Prophet’s Mosque, Al Masjid an Nabawi was one of the first mosques to be built by Prophet Mohamed (ﷺ). This is the second most revered mosque after the Masjid Al Haram in Makkah.

Mount Uhud

Mount Uhud is the site of the second battle between the Muslims and the Quraish tirbe.

Cave of Uhud

Cave of Uhud is located on Mount Uhud. The cave faces Masjid Al Nabawi. Prophet Mohamed (ﷺ) took refuge in this cave when he was injured in the battle of Uhud.

Masjid Quba

When Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) and Abu Bakr (May Allah be pleased with him) arrived in Madina, they stayed at Quba. They reached Madina on 12th Rab’i al-awwal. This marks the beginning of the Hijri calendar.

Prophet Mohamed (ﷺ) established the first mosque at Quba known as Masjid Quba.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “He who purifies himself at his home and comes to Masjid Quba and offers two rakats therein, will be rewarded the reward of an Umrah – Sunan ibn Majah

Jannat ul Baqi

Jannat ul Baqi is the oldest and the first and main Islamic cemetery at Madina. Also known as Garden of Heaven. Buried here are many members of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) close family, thousands of his companions (Sahabah) and many prominent, pious personalities.

Places to Visit in Medina – Well of Uthman Ibn Affan (RA)

In the earlier times, this well was the only source of water for people in a part of Madina. This well was owned by a Jew and he charged a huge amount for the water from his well. Uthman Ibn Affan (RA) offered to buy the well to assist the Muslims in the area.
