The sexual needs of women are also equal to those of men. When the state enacts a law or passes an order in this regard, allocating it only to men becomes evidence of violation of democratic constitution. An order has been issued for married male inmates, according to which inmates in Punjab have been allowed to stay with their wives, inmates have been provided accommodation with their wives in the family homes of the jail.
A statement has also been issued by the Punjab Home Department in this regard. According to the statement, the wife will be allowed to stay with the prisoner's husband every three months for three days while the prisoner's child up to 5 years will also be allowed. Will be able to live with his parents.
The question arises as to why this order has been made only for male prisoners.
Why are married women in prisons deprived of this right?
If many women in prisons give birth to children, then the natural needs of women prisoners should be taken into account. In this regard, it is propagated that prison staff sexually abuse women prisoners and in return It is also relaxed in punishment. In this context, it should be considered that the decision that has been made in view of the problems of male prisoners may also be a problem for women.
Sexual requirements may be the same for both. There are currently 753 women prisoners in Punjab jails, of which more than 200 are regular convicts, while the number of under trial women is close to four and a half hundred, along with their children. If the prison is to be made a correctional facility and human rights are also to be given to the prisoners, then ignoring women in this regard would be cruel.
