The Gift of Sense of Humor

I have seen this video from Mikey Bustos "If Alladin Were Filipino" (A Whole New World Disney Parody) - Pilipinas (click it to view), that showcase the beautiful tourist attractions around the Philippines. As for me it was artistically created and entertaining, the Philippines is of course a beauty to behold and Mikey has an undeniable gift of sense of humor.

In the video, I love how the lyrical arrangement was done to make it apt and fitting for the Disney song "The Whole New World." First, it is so Pinoy that he used a "banig" instead of a carpet. Banig is traditionally Pinoy style, kind of a native mat use for sleeping. Second, I am completely amused with this part of the parody stating about the Philippines' seasons are "hot, hotter, and hottest" lol! and that is really a funny and accurate truth about our country. Third, I laughed out loud when the Aladdin part replied "Don't you dare sing 'My Way" when the Jasmin side of him mentioned Karaoke Fun. Lol! Every Filipino knows the story behind it, or should I just warn you in advance not to sing that song in the Philippines' Karaoke bars if you still value your life, hahah! Lastly, I love it when "Pinoy time" was included in the parody, indeed we aren't late everytime lol!

Anyway, that was really a hilarious way to showcase the Philippines, and this guy is witty and smart to make a video entertaining and amusing. I can say that its a whole new perspective of introducing the tourism aspect of the Philippines.

The video and the concept, together with lyrics and the acting of Mikey displays his amazing gift of sense of humor. It is a gift because not everyone has it. If I have to compare myself for someone like this guy, I can say he is extraordinary. I know I can crack some jokes but I'm not that skillful to make people laugh. Indeed a gift that some people have.

Moreover, it is a priceless gift to have the capacity to poke fun on yourself, like Mr. Bean did. If you happened to watch his movies, or maybe those Mr. Bean animated stories in "Cartoon Network," you will know that he is a prodigy in that aspect. Year after year, Mr. Bean goes on merrily skewering himself – to the delight of millions. Why does his sense of humor was amusing? Partly because we know he’s not making fun of us and of course there is no threat in a self- directed humor.

Sometimes, when things are going badly, a good humor can lighten up our mood and it helps you keep your perspective. Thus it creates some positivity in the situation. Some guys who has this gift of sense of humor, often has the key of that intangible adorability called charm. I don't know if every woman would agree, but I think it does in some aspect. Obviously, people always love to have someone in a group that knows how to make fun.

Laughing at yourself can also make life pleasant. I can remember a friend of my friend, whom we visited ones for prayer a year ago, was suffering from stage 4 breast cancer, despite of her suffering she took this hurdle by making fun of it, perhaps a denial as others perceive it but actually she is not. Humor has been her gift before her illness, and her sickness did not rob her that gift. For her family, her sense of humor took the sting out of affliction, caring for her was not much of an unbearable pain and struggle.

A lot is needed to master this wacky art, really, sometimes with sense of humor we must go through the self- assurance not to mind being made to look momentarily foolish. Like Mr. Bean, he is so passionate on his gift. And like our friend who has cancer, yet never got bogged down from being humorous. Both might have entirely constrasting situations, but shares one inspiration and passion.

Humor is contagious and people will love you for it.
