1 Keep it classic and crisp

The matte white living room is crisp, sleek and timeless. The addition of glass and metal elements makes the white parts look sharper. Sherwin-Williams Pure White is there for you when you don't want to experiment with trends anymore.

2 Use an off-white

In this eclectic space designed by Heidi Caillier, jute rugs, wood paneling and brass accents add warmth to ensure a warm and welcoming space. The contrasting color prints also add to the playful and formal spirit of the surroundings. And even if it's not necessarily noticeable, the cream color makes all the difference. The goal would be much more difficult.

3 Know your place

Before you even start decorating your living room, think about where you are. If you live in a relaxed beach house, your project design will be very different, say, from an industrial loft. In this beach house by Arent & Pyke, the design team focused on channeling the tropical feel of a seaside home through fun patterns and relaxed materials. Nonetheless, they've kept a sophisticated look thanks to new upholstery, beautiful artwork, and thoughtful design. That said, if you love kitsch and still want to be on the island, add a bit of feel to a unique piece, like a vintage wicker chair with a Hawaiian print.
