once upon a time
Once upon a time there was a girl who dreamed of being a princess. And live in a castle with her prince charming. But over the years, that girl realized that fairy tales do not exist, much less Prince Charming.
That girl had to grow up and face the reality of life. That life that was nothing like the ones in his dreams. Real life was very hard and he had to learn that soon.
After a year, it was time for her to get married. He wasn't that handsome, nor did he ride a horse. Nor was he the one who would fight for her without caring about dying. He only seemed to want a wife and meet the standards of society.
Their wedding day did not go as expected. Her dress was also not white flared with a long train. It was more of a plain and simple dress. The ceremony was not an event with many guests, rather it was something family and private. His house was not the great castle of his dreams, it was a modest and small dwelling. Only with the necessary furniture and without any luxury.
Then the children arrived. Carlos, her eldest son, would be the only thing that seemed to make her husband happy, and then came Maria, mom's favorite, after all, the only thing from a fairy tale was the children's names.
Life went by quickly and that girl who was already a woman realized that in caring for her husband and taking care of her children she no longer had time to dream.
The boys grew up and each one made his life and went to live far away.
Only she and her husband were left living an endless routine.
She no longer knows if she loves him or if it's just habit. Used to wake up together in the morning to talk over dinner. Or maybe I'm scared. Fear of growing old alone.
The truth is that as an older woman she doesn't feel like dreaming or even being happy. Gone are those days of that girl who wanted a life like that of fairy tales. He had already resigned himself to his fate and would be so until the end of his days.
That dreamy girl disappeared forever. Perhaps it was the best thing for that moment in his life.
