What is your ideal motorcycle?
Riding a motorcycle with a 100cc engine versus a 750cc engine, for example, is a world of difference. cruiser and sports versions, there is a world of difference. When it comes to motorcycles, there are two distinct categories: cruisers (750cc) and sports bikes (650cc).
However, if you are a commuter (rather than an enthusiast) who considers riding to be a necessity, then all of these will have the same effect on you. What I found to be intriguing
The sound of an engine
Experience a sense of weightlessness.
When you twist the throttle, you will hear the lovely engine rev (engine refinement).
Effortless cruising speeds with minimal effort (power on hand)
High-speed cruising becomes a nightmare. Better night rides
Sense of style and reputation
And so on.
Only 80 kph and occasionally up to 130 kph can be safely driven on Philippine roads nowadays. You never know where a pothole or a bald or melted road might be. You might witness ZX10R or R1 riders riding at 160–180 kph speeds on our roads, but that is totally crazy and suicidal (for riders and others). Provided, they do not ride at such speeds all the time because of the wind resistance, discomfort, traffic and road undulations.
No matter what capacity bike you own, a safe riding speed in the Philippines is always 7 kph. This speed is safe for a biker, gives them enough time to react, and provides good mileage. It also produces fewer emissions, making it eco-friendly.
Why do we like the sound of some big-bike motorcycles? Let us have a look at the motors first.
At double, the engine speed, inline 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engines exhibit an uneven vibration. When acceleration and deceleration are different at the top dead center (under a significant shock load) and bottom dead center, the consequence is this (gentler shock load). Some manufacturers use counter-balance shafts that spin at twice the engine's speed and are used by some manufacturers to reduce vibration, especially when the displacement is considerable. At under 3,000 RPM, the maximum speed of a 4-stroke, 4-cylinder engine is 4800 RPM. Using a novel engine mounting system, certain manufacturers are able to effectively isolate the passenger compartment from the noise and vibration generated by the engine.
Idle speed is when the horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine (Subaru, Porsche, rear-engine VW) produces its worst vibration, but rubber engine mounts often reduce the transmission of engine vibration into the passenger compartment.
The flat crankshaft of 4-stroke, 4-cylinder engines is a major benefit because it is easier and less expensive to produce on a production line. Detroit Diesel 4-71 and 4–53 engines, for example, had V-8 crankshafts with a con-rod bearing spacing of 90 degrees; these engines also used combination camshaft/counter-balance shaft systems to reduce engine vibration.
The pitching vibration of a 3-cylinder engine occurs at high engine speeds. A commonality between the 2- and 4-stroke engines is the use of a crankshaft with con-rod bearings placed at an angle of 120 degrees. Vibration is worst at idling. At high RPM, good rubber or silicone-based engine mounts are strategically placed to decrease transmission of engine noise and vibration, especially in small displacement engines with lightweight pistons and con-rods.
Using large-displacement 3-cylinder engines like the original 213-cubic-inch 2-stroke DETROIT DIESEL 3–71 engine, which could provide 120 to 150 horsepower, the transfer of engine vibration was calmed by the use of twin counter-rotating counter-balance shafts.
As a result of the lower manufacturing costs, a 4-stroke, 4-cylinder engine with dual counter-rotating rotors can generate great power at low RPMs. Some articulated transit buses in North America were powered by the 8-liter, 4-cylinder DETROIT DIESEL Series 50 engine.
A horizontally opposed 4-cylinder or an inline 3-cylinder engine with a modest displacement would be good alternatives for extremely high RPM running.
I'm a big fan of motorcycle but I'm not fond of any type. I cruise with the one that comes my way
