Today, we commemorate and honor the memory of all Filipino and American war veterans who valiantly fought to defend our Fatherland from aggressive Japanese invaders on the 76th year anniversary of the unconditional surrender of all Japanese land, sea and naval forces in the Philippines led by General Tomoyuki Yamashita. General Yamashita was the last fighting Japanese general to surrender after the war ended, when he surrendered to the American forces at Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
In accordance with the Republic Act 11216, September 3 was officially declared as Yamashita Surrender Day and Victory Day in the Philippines, which was a special working holiday in the Philippines.
