Books bring us closer to reality
“Real life is life finally discovered and clarified, so the only life lived to the fullest is literature. In a sense, this life is present in every human being as well as in the artist. “Literature is actually a part of life and it is itself. Real life is too short to be lived to the fullest. Limited. However, in the fictional world, there is no limit to the imagination.
The fictional world is not real. However, among the limitations of life, literature removes those boundaries. Literature is actually like living more than one life. It means choosing one among hundreds of characters and living it. Every book read means a world.
Movies are the same. But the movie is limited. There is no limit to the imagination in the book. The fact that his eyes come alive while reading the book also shows that his imagination is not limited. We see this clearly especially in books that contain fantasy science fiction elements. However, when it is adapted to movies, it is to limit this fantasy world.
Therefore, reading the book comes before watching the movie and takes us away. First you need to read the book and watch the movie. This is where the disappointment comes from. A person drowning in the limitation of his imagination, all he can do is read a book. In fact, reading a book also helps to get rid of the dream world.
Because the novel actually provides to have experience and to live different lives at the same time. Reading a book is like taking on that character for a while and living that life and then returning to your own life. Imagination is free. If imagination is limited, a person leaves life. Because when the book is read, it comes to life in your imagination and takes on characters. This is why reading books is necessary. There may be limitations in imagination when watching a movie.
But this is not the case in fantasy science fiction movies. The Lord of the Rings is such a good movie because it is actually an adaptation of a book. It may not taste the same when you watch Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Reading the book Pride and Prejudice is actually an expression of living.
Don Quixote was actually about a person who stays in a fictional life and cannot return to the real world. He was a comedy hero who took on a fictional character and waged war on windmills. However, Don Quixote, a nobleman who had no friends other than his books, was actually a person living in the world of books.
However, his lifestyle actually stemmed from wanting to live the fictional world rather than read it. When he left the fictional world and returned to real life, he accepted that everything was a dream. It is also an expression of the vastness of the dream world.
In fact, you need a limit to distinguish the real world as well as the limitlessness of your imagination. When fantasy and reality get mixed up, the world turns upside down and disease begins. There is a big difference between the real world and the fantasy world. The disease occurs when the real world cannot be distinguished from the imaginary world.
It's like being Don Quixote who declared war on windmills. It is folly to cling to a dream. He has made the dream a way of life. Don Quixote lost himself in an imaginary world and forgot to live his life. A mental life in an imaginary world causes a person to die.
In my previous article, Sometimes You Have to Be Don Quixote, I mentioned that there is utopia. In fact, Don Quixote is a knowledgeable and deep thinker. However, he is a person drowning in a fantasy world. Although the fantasy world is actually necessary for a writer, we can say that too much is harmful.
