A close encounter with an invader. Chanced upon with an Asian hornet also known as the Asian predatory wasp (Vespa velutina) while walking along the rows of agricultural plots leading to the river. This insect have a tendency to invade the ecosystem of other countries and can pose a threath to the biodiversity as well as to humans. In European countries, this insect is already included in their list of Invasive Alien Species of Union concern because this insect is wiping out the bee population in some territories and had caused people to be hospitalized due to anaphylactic shock that caused by the sting of this insect. Further, the insect was unintentionally brought to Europe when boxes of pottery with hornets nests arrived in France in 2004 and in 2009, nests where spotted in Bordeaux then the insect invaded neighboring countries like Spain; Portugal; Italy; and even reached United Kingdom and Ireland.

Got a free dinner today as I went clamming to the beach this morning and though I only got a few because the tide is already rising when I arrived, still I am thankful because I have something to eat without spending money. That's happiness in all its simplicity.🤗♥️👍

Upcycling to the stars! An eco-friendly lantern that is mostly made up from agricultural waste and readily available materials from the backyard such as corn husks and bamboo. This can lasts for years if properly stored after the yuletide season is over.

There's more than meet the eye. Thought that I already have this in my files because I mistook this as a green bottle fly or a hoverfly species but not until I took a closer look and noticed those remarkable stripes on its eye which give it as a distinctive feature that this insect is not yet in my files and I found out that this insect is a species of a horsefly. Foreglow, afterglow, crepuscular and anticrepuscular. My fascination to golden hour photography lead me to discover terms which are unfamiliar to me before like what are foreglows and afterglows are and I learned that foreglows (first photograph) are the occurences before the sunrise or when the rising sun becomes visible to the horizon while afterglows (second photograph) while afterglows are the occurences after the sunset or when the sun is no longer visible at the horizon. I also learned that crepuscular rays (third photograph)makes these occurences to become colorful especially if these rays are trapped by clouds and dust particles that are present in the atmosphere. Further, there is also anticrepuscular rays (fifth photograph) and they can be seen at the opposite direction where the sun sets in and that actual direction where the sun sets in at that time can be seen at the fourth photograph.

Mano a Mano. Giant honeybee versus Asian predatory wasp. On my recent content, I posted an insect hovering around a lightbulb that I thought it was a bee. But basing from the structural features of its silhouette, the insect turned out to be an Asian predatory wasp a kind of wasp that invade a beehive or bee colony to kill bees for food. But bees will not allow that to happen as their population will be wiped out and there will be nothing left to continue their generation because their larvas will also be eaten by the bees so they evolved by making a ball out of themselves which can create some kind of vibration that can produce heat as high as 45°C to kill the invading wasps and only the bees can withstand that intensity of heat.

My regular night time visitor. Since I'm stationed at a sentry near the foot of a mountain, it is more likely that insects will enter my workplace because they are attracted by the light from the electric bulb and though they sting, this bee is my favorite to photograph because of their striking stripes. I just let it fly into the light bulb because it will surely leave once it gets tired of flying. But when sometimes they come in swarms, I have two options to choose from of what to do and that is I will be the one to leave my workplace and return once the bees are gone and turn the lights off so the bees will leave.

Hello! Hope everyone is doing great! Found another wild pea species and it was identified as Vigna adenantha. At first glance, this one looks the same with the species I posted recently. However, the appearance of their flowers are different from each other.

THERE'S MORE THAN MEET THE EYE. I nearly don't have the interest of having this insect captured through my lens because I thought that this is just another species of a hoverfly that I photographed three years ago. But since I need to practice myself in taking macro pictures at night time and to see how my capabilities, I give this critter a snap and noted one striking feature that shows that I don't have yet this kind of insect in my files and based from what I learned about this insect using Google search, I found out that this insect is a species of a horsefly and the closest possible identify of this insect might be an Oriental horsefly (Tabanus striatus) and further learned that the female horseflies have scissor-like mouthpart that is used for cutting through the skin so they can suck blood.

Mango stem borer (Batocera rufomaculata) Upon looking at this insect, it reminds me of robotic alien villains sent by the minions of Prince Zardoz of the Boazanian Empire to invade Planet Earth. For sure, those from Generation X and some millennials know what animé tv show is I am referring with. In real life, this kind of longhorn beetle or also known as longicorns can sow terror indirectly to humans but of fruit trees, mangoes, papayas, and pomegranates because the adult insect feed on the tips of young leaves and soft twigs of trees. While the mature female insect bore into the bark of trunk and branches of the trees to lay eggs which in turn the larvas will create tunnel like holes down to the sapwood which affects the growth of foliage and fruit production of the trees, thus this insect is considered as pests in most countries.

Desert rose (Adenium obesum) and Kalachuchi (Plumeria rubra)both from Apocynaceae family. Sometimes we tend to misidentify plant common names and to correct the mistake we should rely on their scientific names instead. Desert roses are shrubs with pink unscented flowers while kalachuchis are trees with white and yellow flowers. Just be careful of the sap of desert roses as it is highly poisonous one drop of the sap is enough to kill a fully grown elephant and some tribes in Africa use the sap to poison their arrows.
