The history of the pen is many days. The word ‘pen’ in English comes from the Latin word penna, which means feather of a bird. At one time feathers were used for writing. In India also at one time horn pens, bird feathers etc. were used. The Egyptians probably began to write something like a copper nib on the tip of a stick. Greek pen was made of ivory or something like that. It was called 'Stylus'. That is why now the style of writing is called style. Feather pens were introduced in the Middle Ages after the invention of paper. In 183, the American Lewis Waterman discovered the fountain pen. After that other countries also started making fountain pens. And now the ball point pen that we write with, that ball point pen was made in the twentieth century. Lazlo Joseph Biro, born in Budapest, Hungary in 1899, was a journalist by profession. While working as a journalist, he researched the use of fountain pens and various inks and was finally able to invent ballpoint pens. He first exhibited the ballpoint pen at an international fair in 1931, and in 1938 he obtained his patent.
