Workers of Paradise Cables in the movement demanding arrears of wages
Workers of Paradise Cables in Narayanganj have been holding a sit-in in front of Shram Bhaban in Vijayanagar for two days demanding 13 months arrears of wages. The protesters also handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office on Monday. Until the last news, the sit-in program is going on on Tuesday.
The workers of Paradise Cables started a sit-in program at Shram Bhaban last Sunday demanding arrears of wages. Yesterday morning, they left for the Prime Minister's Office to hand over the memorandum. However, when the police stopped them in front of the National Press Club, they gathered there. Later, a four-member delegation went to the Prime Minister's Office and handed over the memorandum. This information was given in a press release of Paradise Cables Limited Workers Union.
President of Paradise Cables Limited Workers Union Delwar Hossain presided over the rally. Acting President of Garment Workers Trade Union Center Kazi Ruhul Amin, General Secretary Jolly Talukder, Joint General Secretary Iqbal Hossain, Labor Leader Dulal Saha, Jahangir Alam and others spoke on the occasion.
The labor leaders complained that the employers were not paying the workers' wages for 13 months as planned. Even the worker has three years of overtime allowance arrears. He has arrears of holiday money earned in the last three years, Eid bonus and other dues. As a result, the permanent workers who have been working in the factory for many years are living inhumane lives.
According to the labor leaders, on April 21, in the presence of the officials of the Ministry of Labor, the employers agreed to pay the workers in arrears of two months' salary in installments. However, the employer is not paying the workers due to the coronavirus opportunity. On the other hand, unfortunately the officials of the labor department are also avoiding the responsibility.
At the end of the rally, the agitating workers came to the front of the labor building and resumed the sit-in program. Paradise Cables Limited Workers' Union has announced that it will continue its sit-in program if the arrears are not resolved.
