If necessary, the budget will be amended: Minister of Planning
If the effects of the novel coronavirus (Kavid-19) are prolonged, the budget will be revised if necessary considering the economic situation, said Planning Minister MA Mannan. He made the remarks while joining the budget dialogue of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), an online research institute, here today (Saturday). During the discussion, the CPD also expressed doubts about the priority of spending in the proposed budget.
Finance Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal presented the budget in the National Assembly on June 11 in the hope of reviving the economy amid the Corona disaster. The CPD's dialogue on Saturday claimed that the allocation for the health sector in this year's budget was insufficient and that it was necessary to reduce taxes at the source of increased export value in the garment sector.
Ahsan H Mansoor, executive director of the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh, said the Corona situation should have given two budgets every six months.
Meanwhile, Nihad Kabir, president of the Metropolitan Chamber, said honest and regular taxpayers have been discouraged from investing undisclosed money.
In such a discussion, Planning Minister MA Mannan said, the proposed budget has not been finalized yet so it is being reviewed every day. If the corona is more frightening it will be corrected if necessary.
Therefore, analysts see the implementation of the budget as a challenge in such a situation.
