69% of consumers buy goods and services digitally: MasterCard

Consumers in Asia and the Pacific are opting for digital commerce. Consumer interest in old-fashioned shopping is declining. Currently, 69 percent of consumers worldwide and 91 percent of Asia and the Pacific consumers buy goods digitally. 8 out of 10 consumers want to make a permanent online transaction. They think that after the coronation, the old-fashioned transaction platform will take the place of the old system. A recent survey by MasterCard revealed this information.

MasterCard conducted the survey from April 27 to May 18. The survey found that between Asia and the Pacific, 30 per cent of people in Australia, 49 per cent in India, 55 per cent in China and 34 per cent in Japan said they plan to shop online. At the same time, 36 per cent of people in Australia, 6 per cent in India, 56 per cent in China and 40 per cent in Japan said they rarely think about shopping in stores these days.

Lockdown has been issued in various countries to prevent the outbreak of Covid-19. As a result, many stores have closed. However, according to the Salesforce Shopping Index, in the first three months of 2020, the volume of digital commerce or online transactions increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to a MasterCard survey, 8 out of 10 people in the world say they want to move away from the current trend and make online transactions permanently. Nearly half of consumers think that online-based platforms will take the place of old-fashioned transactions after Corona. Forty-six percent of consumers in Asia and the Pacific said they usually do cashless transactions or online transactions. The rate of cashless transactions is 52 percent in Australia, 49 percent in India, 43 percent in China and 41 percent in Japan. Only 71 per cent of consumers in Australia, 6 per cent in India, 63 per cent in China and 72 per cent in Japan now believe that it is only a matter of time before cashless shopping and transactions are established.
