Elon Musk Reinstated Donald Trump's Twitter Account After Public Vote
Introduction
The billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX is used to making big decisions, but even he found it hard to choose between two hugely popular options when asked to decide whether Donald Trump should be allowed to remain on Twitter. Elon Musk has revealed his decision in a series of tweets, saying that the people have spoken and that he has reinstated the US President's account after almost six million Twitter users took part in an informal poll to decide its fate.
Why did Elon Musk reinstate Donald Trump's Twitter account?
On December 18, 2018, Twitter owner Elon Musk tweeted that he would delete the president's account on his platform if he could. He then said he would take up the matter with the staff.
The move comes amid reports that multiple employees at the company were quitting due to differences in opinion over how to handle misinformation and hate speech on the platform, and following a survey of more than 15 million Twitters users that showed 51% of people wanted Trump's account to stay. The poll was posted by Musk in response to a tweet from actor Kumail Nanjiani who joked about deleting his own Twitter account, which had around 2 million followers.
How did the public vote?
More than 15 million people voted in the poll and some Republican supporters are not happy about the result. The Truth Social is a US-based organization that aims to provide factual information about issues and personalities, in a way that is accessible and understandable for all. They were not involved in the voting process but tweeted on Friday: The people have spoken.
Donald Trump was suspended from Twitter in January 2021 amid reports he had violated the site's rules against hateful conduct. But now it looks as if he will be back as of today. In his first tweet since being suspended, he appeared to take aim at former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
What are people saying about this decision?
After being banned from the social media platform for a year, the former President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump has been reinstated by Elon Musk. The decision to bring him back followed a public vote which was carried out via another social media platform, Truth Social. Elon tweeted The people have spoken, tweeting that 51.8% of more than 15 million Twitter users voted for the ban to be lifted. The decision came amid reports that his former 2020 opponent in presidential elections Joe Biden is considering running again in 2024, with some polls suggesting he would win a landslide victory if he ran against President Trump then.
That's interesting to know that Biden is planning to run again, they can do that? Elon goes to open that platform since many also use it with memes and if I remember it right, he promotes Twitter for open speech.
