How would this type of scenario be likely to work out in reality?

In the film "Kelly's Heroes", a Sherman tank ambushes a Tiger I tank at close range. How would this type of scenario be likely to work out in reality?

A short range shot into the back of a Tiger would be a kill.

Great movie, and at least they tried to get the tanks right (unlike Patton…).

Here is the tactical situation the question is referring to:

They accidently shoot a round filled with red paint instead of explosives on the first shot.

The Tiger can’t rotate their gun to bear on the Sherman.
