NEW DELHI: A suspected ISIS operative, arrested following a brief exchange of fire, had planned terror strikes in high footfall areas of the national capital, Delhi Police officials said on Saturday.
Two pressure cooker IEDs were recovered from Mohammad Mustakeem Khan, alias Abu Yusuf, a resident of Balarampur in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested by Delhi Police's Special Cell on Friday night from the section of the Ridge Road between Dhaula Kuan and Karol Bagh.
Khan had planned a terror strike in the national capital on August 15, but could not do so due to heavy security arrangements, said P S Kushwah, DCP (Special Cell).
Khan had been under watch for the last year, he told reporters.
“Our operation had been on for the last one year,” Kushwaha said.
He said Khan was in touch with ISIS handlers who instructed him to plan terror strikes in India.

Centre asks states not to put restrictions on inter-state movement of people, goods
PTI | Aug 22, 2020, 15:54 IST
File photo for representation purpose onlyNEW DELHI: The Centre has asked all states to ensure that there should be no restrictions on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods during the ongoing unlocking process.
In a communication to chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said there were reports that local level restrictions on movement were being imposed by various districts and states.
Drawing attention to the Unlock 3 guidelines, Bhalla said such restrictions are creating problems in inter-state movement of goods and services and are impacting supply chains, resulting in disruption in economic activity and employment.
The unlock guidelines clearly state that there shall be no restrictions on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods, he said in the letter.
NEWS IN BRIEF
EXPLORE BRIEFSCoronavirus: India tests over 10 lakh people in a day
Keeping its commitment of exponentially increasing daily Covid-19 tests, India has crossed a significant milestone of testing more than 10 lakh samples in a day, taking the cumulative tests to more than 3.4 crore, Union health ministry said. Of the total of 10,23,836 samples tested on Friday, around 3.8 lakh samples were tested through rapid antigen tests, sources said.
Bengaluru adds more Covid-19 cases than Mumbai, Chennai in August
Recording more than twice the number of cases compared to Chennai and Mumbai between August 1 and 20, Bengaluru’s caseload crossed the 1-lakh mark on Friday, even while experts sounded a warning, indicating the virus is still in the ascending stage in the city. In percentage terms, Mumbai saw a 16% jump in those 20 days, compared to a 30% increase reported in Chennai.
The guidelines also stated that no separate permission, approval or e-permit will be required for movement of persons and goods for cross land border trade under treaties with neighbouring countries.
The home secretary said restrictions amount to violation of guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs under provisions of Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The letter requested that no restrictions be imposed and it should be ensured that the unlock guidelines are followed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had first announced lockdown with effect from March 25 to combat the coronavirus pandemic which was subsequently extended till May 31.
Since June 1, the unlock process began with the opening up industrial activities and offices across the country.

Making online teaching effective through soft skills and tools transactional analysis
Deeksha Nijhawan | SPOTLIGHT | Updated: Jun 10, 2020, 23:42 IST
Teaching is an extremely demanding profession, and in the current times we are tiding in are probably not helping our anxiety levels. Anxiety affects our ability to concentrate, think flexibly and make sound decisions. In the current state of flux, with stress levels mounting, anxiety can degrade the quality of our relationships with our students and ofcourse our teaching performance overall. It is here that a pragmatic approach towards understanding our psyche and that of our students, can really help us, in decoding their behaviour and eventually our responses. Transactional Analysis offers teachers a way to understand what is happening on a social level within their online classroom and within themselves. With this tool teachers can figure out what's going on in their own minds and in the minds of their children, which is especially helpful in the current state we are all in. When powered with this psychological behavioural tool, teachers can choose to respond rather than react- appropriately.
TA is a field of psychology that looks at the ‘transactions’ that go on between people when they communicate. Self-awareness and understanding of others enables individuals and groups to develop effective and powerful communication and a better climate in the classroom, more so today. Teachers come out with more self-awareness, an increased understanding of other people's behaviour and as a result they get better at student teacher relationship management, that can have a positive impact on the overall online class environment.
Understanding Ego states: Analysing our interaction with students-
The theory outlines how we have developed and treat ourselves, how we relate and communicate with others, and offers suggestions and interventions which will enable us to change and grow. Many times we think that it's because of our attitudes that we can't relate well with others, NO it is because of our Ego. There are 3 major ego states according to Eric Berne- that of parent, adult and child, and we keep shifting between these states all our lives. It is important to understand the below, given the Covid-19 infested times we are all living in.

Ego states is a concept that helps you analyze in which state you and other people are in. It consists of:
Child ego state (divided into adaptive, rebellious and free child)
Parent ego state (divided into nurturing and critical parent state)
Adult ego state (a mature and pragmatic approach)
TA tells us that life plays out as a series of transactions. And all our interactions come from the 3 ego stages. None of these states are necessarily better than the other, but as teachers, TA encourages us to respond from an adult stage, as most transactions played out in the adult state are based on respect and compromise, something that is the need of this pandemic hour.
The majority of our life experiences are recorded in our subconscious mind in an unaltered fashion and become a part of the way we behave. The behaviour is subconsciously designed to get reactions and determine how others feel about us. This can be applied to manage online classroom behaviour. TA claims that we can better understand ourselves by analyzing our transactions with the people. Transaction equals conversation or interaction between two people. Basically, transactional analysis is about identifying which ego states are present in your transactions so that you can become more conscious of your behavior, and eventually have better, more constructive transactions with students as you engage with them in your virtual classrooms.
As teachers it's important to be able to read the different social and psychological messages while talking to children, a child might say something but might mean something else altogether. An understanding of TA will help you with this, as they are anyway physically afar.
Teaching is about relationships. Psychotherapy is about relationships. They are made for each other. The thing that we remember about our special teachers is how they connected with us. How they made us feel valued, inspired and special. In order for a child to learn anything within the classroom setting you need a good teacher to facilitate the process. The relationships between pupils and teachers are very complex and the power of our own script should never be underestimated, more so in these pandemic stricken times.

India has world's best Covid-19 recovery rate, lowest fatality rate: Dr Harsh Vardhan

File photo of union health minister Dr Harsh VardhanNEW DELHI: While India has the lowest fatality rate due to Covid-19, it probably has the best recovery rate in the world, said Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Saturday.
Harsh Vardhan said that contrary to what the experts had claimed about the number of cases reaching 300 million in the country, including five-six million deaths, by July-August, India had less than three million cases, out of which 2.2 million have already recovered.
"As far as COVID-19 numbers are concerned, our fatality rate, 1.87 per cent, is really low and we have probably the best recovery rate (75 per cent) in the world. We have around 1,500 testing labs now. It is a great achievement in itself," Harsh Vardhan told here.
"Also we have achieved the target of testing 10 lakh tests per day six weeks before the set deadline. We now have 1,511 testing labs in the country," he added.

He further said the Indian scientists are working very hard to develop a vaccine and provide it to the world.
"Out of the three vaccine candidates, one has entered the third phase of trials. We are confident that within this year we will provide the world with an effective vaccine to save the people," Harsh Vardhan said.
The number of samples tested for Covid-19 per day has crossed the million mark in India, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research on Saturday.
