Dress To Flatter Your Body
How hard is it to figure out what clothes Flatter our bodies? my articles are full of advice on whether we are pears or apples or Xs or Vs and what we should wear depending on our personal category of fruit . They all tend to make it sound much more complicated than it actually is and we still all have clothes in our closet that we thought looked great in the store, but that have never actually been worn because something is not quite right.

Regardless of your shape and size, there are a few simple principals that will help you find what suits you best, as well as understand why something you love on the hanger does nothing to flatter your body.
Our eyes are drawn to lines, and horizontal lines pull everything in the width, whereas vertical lines make everything appear longer.
Fabric adds volume, so more fabric means more volume
Dark colors make anything appear smaller, whereas light colors make objects appear larger.
How do we apply this our bodies? Most of us have a really good idea of what part of our body we are conscious of, so start by taking a critical look at the clothes you wear and consider them in light of the three points just raised.
Lines
Horizontal
Few of us want to appear wider than we actually are, so we avoid horizontal stripes, but using them in the right place can change your proportions. For example, if you have narrow shoulders, wearing a horizontally striped t-shirt will make your upper body seem wider. If you have narrow hips, a horizontally striped skirt will look really good on you.
Horizontal lines can also be created by where, for example, your sleeves end of you are small busted, end your short sleeves at bust height. This optically draws a line straight across your chest. Of course,if you are larger busted and do not want to emphasize that part of your body, wear a cap sleeve, or elbow length sleeves instead. Skirt hems also draw a horizontal line, which can emphasize an area of our legs that we are self- conscious about . If you have bigger calves, ending your skirt there will add weight where you may not need it. A bit further up, just at the top of your knees, may be more flattering.
Ending your tops at the right place can also have an impact how well something suits us. If you are self - conscious about your tummy, it is not wise to end your tops right there. Neither is it wise to pull your tops down to cover your hips if they are the wider part of your body, as this just draws a line straight across them, making them look wider. Generally, most of us look bes in tops that hit the hip bone. This is nearly always flattering, as the top skims over a tummy but does not overemphasize that hips.
Vertical
Many of us in the Philippines would like to look taller and there are a few ways of doing this with vertical lines. We don't all have to run around in vertically striped pants and dresses, but we can, for instance, achieve this by wearing just one color. Wearing sleek garments in just one color will make you look taller than wearing a different color top and bottom or some wild print. The trick is to make your body look like a column where the eye is not interrupted as it moves up and down. Of course we can also add vertical lines by wearing higher heels are not always the most comfortable shoes to wear, but matching your shoes to your pants will make your legs look longer as the eye can not see where you're the leg stops and the foot starts. If you would like to make your upper body look longer and, therefore, narrower, you can create vertical lines by wearing long necklaces or a top with an opening all the way down the front.
Fabric
How much fabric we wear can also impact how flattering a style will be for us. Styles with a lot of fabric, such as ruffles and gathers, add weight,so you want to wear them only on the slimmer parts of your body. If you are small busted then,by all means, wear flounces and tops with gathers and drapes, as well as details like pockets, etc. These add volume just where you can afford to carry it. However, you may want to avoid tops with too much fabric if you are larger busted and do not want to draw to much attention to that part of your body. The same applies to skirts: wide gathered skirts are more flattering to the narrow hipped among us. Pockets and a lot of details on pants also add weight to our bottom halves and may be a reason what you really never liked wearing your cargo pants.
Color
As dark colors make anything look smaller, wear the darkest colors on the part of your body you want to minimize. So if you have wider hips, wear a darker color skirt or pants. If you have narrow hips, you can easily wear lighter colors on the bottom. Playing with color can also help balance out something, which may not normally suit you. For example, if you have wider hips and really want to wear a wide, flouncy peasant skirt, make sure the skirt is a dark color and that color on the bottom will help minimize the added "weight" of the skirt and a lighter colored top will balance this out.
Finding clothes that flatter our bodies is not rocket science, but it does sometimes require us to take a more analytical view of what we wear. This is often easier if you have a friend who will give you his or her honest opinion, so make a date with a friend to help each other clear out your wardrobes. If you would like more of our help to find what flatters you most.
