Hello randomly I missed you hehehe,by the way I'm here again to share my article about playing violin and guitar, maybe many of you are fond of playing.

Music transcends age, race and culture and there's no doubt that it can stir us emotionally it ways we can't quite fathom, regardless of it's type or gene. The classical genre remains one of the most-loved categories and listening to it has actually been deemed positive to our health.

Classical music is structured differently fr other types of music and considered not only more cultured but also more multifaceted, more complex, and it is the complexity that proves beneficial as it stimulates the pathways in the brain that enables " spatial-temporal reasoning," which is basically the ability to visualize images in the mind in time and space. This is a crucial skill in learning mathematics and science and is best demonstrated in the game of chess when an individual needs to think ahead and envision what will happen next.

Studies of Classical Music and Health

Who would have guessed that something intangible that touches our sense of hearing could contribute positively to health? The following studies of classical music's role in health may shed light on the subject and it answered my question as to why my surgeon played Debussy's" Claire de lune" just before I went under for my breast surgery about 14 years ago.

Classical music can reduce vehicle road accidents

Various types of music fail to reduce aggressive driving behavior,as observed in a study by the German Transportation Ministry earlier this year and, according to Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer, the study has shown that slow classical music has calming effect on drivers. It has been proved that classical music played in the car lowers stress levels and makes the driver calmer and more measured, which is invaluable for road safety. Ramsauer claims that many accident and dangerous traffic situations are due to aggressive drivers and I hope that listening to classical music while driving will help counter that."

Classical music can lower blood pressure

The sooting experience when one hears a masterful opus isn't just imagined and a study from the University of San Diego actually determined that subjects had lower blood pressure after listening to classical music. A 2008 article published in the journal of Clinical Nursing also claimed that pregnant women showed reduced levels of stress, anxiety and depression after listening to a 30 minute track of classical hits. Subjects also performed a challenging three minute mental arithmetic task and we're then randomly assigned to sit in silence or to listen to one of three styles of music. Classical, jazz or pop. Those who listened to classical music had significantly lower post-task systolic blood pressure levels than those who heard no music, while other musical styles did not produce significantly better recovery than silence.

Classical music can alleviate pain

Reach for some Beethoven along with the aspirin, as it turns out that melodious music can help tune out pain. A team out of Britain was able to reduce the amount of pain killing opiates given to people recovering from stomach surgery, instead substituting the drug with a steady dosage of classical music. Another study in the journal for Advanced nursing showed that music can relieve chronic pain. This experiment tested the effects of music on power ,pain, depression and disability and compared the effects of researcher- provided music with subject- preferred music, concluding that patients can use music to enhance the effects of analgesics, decrease pain, depression and disability, and promote feeling of power.

The hypothesis that music makes an individual emotional and may be the "food of love" was challenged by another study and it seemed to support Shakespeare's claim. A cognitive theory of emotion and aesthetic in music suggest that listening to music is cognitively and,in turn, emotionally, arousing. In addition,a theory of inhabitation and psychosomatic disease suggests that disclosing personal and traumatic information is psychologically and physically beneficial

This study examined the effects of music within a disclosure setting on the use of cognitive and emotional language on 85 undergraduates, whereby participants in both the "background music" and no music conditions wrote or spoke into a tape recorder about the most significant event or experience of their lives. In addition to the language used, self-reported moods, subject impressions about the disclosure experience and the environment were also examined. Results indicated that background music had an effect on the disclosure topics chosen, promoted cognitive suggestion and expression and increased the enjoyment of listening to classical music. Furthermore, researchers found that listening to classical music heightened the emotions in the study participants and, not only were they more expressive and effusive with their comments, but they were more forthcoming as well.

Classic music can promote a good night's sleep

A Hungarian team showed that listening to 45 minutes of classical music before bedtime helped students from the age of 19 to 28 who had problems falling asleep. Research suggested that turning on the famous and much loved "Lullaby" or similar peaceful pieces could be an effective way of battling insomnia. This experiment examined relaxation using different experimental conditions to test whether the effects of individual elements of relaxation response." 67 male volunteers were exposed to a stress manipulation and then to one of two relaxation ( progressive relaxation, music) or control ( attention control, silence) conditions, and measurements of attention, relaxation , and stress responses were obtained during each phase of the experiment. All four groups exhibited similar performance on behavioral measure of attention that suggested a reduction in physiological arousal following their relaxation or control condition, as well as a decreased heart rate. Progressive relaxation, however, resulted in the greatest effects on behavioral and self- report measures of relaxation, suggesting that cognitive cues provided by stress management techniques contribute to relaxation.

Finally, the granddaddy of them all, the infamous " Mozart Effect." When researches published a study drawing a link between listening to the maestros music and heightened IQ scores, it spawned a cottage industry of brainpower- boosting products ( remember Baby Mozart?) And more recent studies have shown that playing his works have lessened symptoms associated with epilepsy.

No doubt there are many negative things that some people will say about classical music- it can be stuffy, pretentious and too formal- and that's compounded by the fact that, today, very few people under the age 30 listen to classical music and efforts to revitalize interest in the genre from the mainstream invariably come off as pathetic, archaic and out of touch. Yet, there is so much good that can be derived from classical music , emotions can be stirred and beautiful, blood levels can be reduced, nerves are calmed and pains alleviated, our overall health is improved.

Since time immemorial,we humans can recall how to fi our senses with something that is magnificent to listen to and beneficial to our wellbeing and it's a classic.
